Congratulations Graduates

It is a very special day for many of our Livingston families. Today, Thursday, June 24, students from Livingston High School’s Class of 2021 will attend their graduation ceremony, in person, and receive their diplomas. We are thrilled to see our hundreds of seniors experience a relatively normal ceremony. It is well-earned after what can charitably be described as an unusual, and challenging, final two years of high school.

Despite the strangeness and uncertainty, students have been able to finish out the school year in person with their peers and teachers. Thankfully, the final memories of high school for many of these students will not be of staring at a laptop and their bedroom walls, but rather of roaming the LHS halls with friends, signing yearbooks, and saying farewell to their favorite teachers.

Northland Pool Will Open Fourth of July Weekend

The Township Council discussed opening Northland Pool, construction of the new Department of Public Works garage, and the return to inperson meetings at its Monday, June 21, meeting.

Township manger Barry Lewis noted that he, along with the Council and township employees, have heard from a number of residents about their desire to see the Northland Pool opened to the public this summer.

Lewis said that, since American Rescue Plan funding can be used to reimburse for lost revenues from utilities, including pools, that money could be used to open Northland on the weekends.

Stuffed Animal Gift

Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) volunteers saved one last stuffed animal from the holiday season for a situation that could present itself down the road. A community-minded Livingston resident donated thousands of the plush toys over a four year period to ensure that profoundly poor children will receive a gift on Christmas morning. Many months later, that situation came to fruition outside a local Newark pantry, when the little girl shown above was presented with the toy. “Instantly, the time was right. This little cutie was thrilled to receive her unexpected gift from LPI volunteers,” said LPI founder and director Jeff Friedman. “Thank you, Livingston! Neighbors can visit LPI’s website at njhomeless.org to explore how the non-profit organization helps the homeless and provides for families living below the poverty line.”
