Tribune Welcomes First Baby Of 2016 with Many Gifts

The first baby of 2016 born to Livingston parents will be welcomed by the West Essex Tribune and its advertisers with an assortment of gifts in the 59th annual First Baby Contest. The rules to determine the winner are the same each year: The first baby of 2016 must be born in a nearby hospital to parents who currently reside in Livingston. The exact time of the birth must be certified in writing by the attending physician.

Cardiac Arrest Victim Revived At Church on Christmas Eve

Two of Livingston's first responders, off duty police officer Kevin Mullaney and off duty firefighter John Durish, were instrumental in saving a man's life in what has been dubbed by many as a "Christmas miracle." Both happened to be at the 7 p.m. Mass at St. Philomena's Church on Christmas Eve when 72 year old Brendan Devlin of 156 East Cedar Street suddenly collapsed on the altar while serving as a Eucharistic minister.

Non-Existent GMO Safety Standards Is Topic of Public Forum at LHS

More than 100 people attended a science forum at Livingston High School (LHS) on December 21 to hear five scientists – three of whom are high school students – describe their work in GMO (genetically modified organisms) safety standards. In the audience were students, faculty members, Livingston Education Foundation (LEF) and Board of Education members, and residents, including one couple who came because they own stock in Monsanto, a corporation that produces GMO products. The audience displayed curiosity about the research and the controversy, and pride in the accomplishments of the students and alumnus.

Resident Arrested for Theft From Livingston Warehouse

Last Wednesday, December 16, Livingston police officers arrested Ian Marius, 40, of 26 Stratford Drive for allegedly stealing more than $700,000 worth of merchandise from Weilgus & Sons, a Livingston-based door distribution company. According to officials, on Friday, September 4, police were called to the home of business owner Stan Weilgus, who reported that his employee, Adam Edwards of East Orange, was in possession of items stolen from his warehouse.

HOLIDAY FESTIVITIES CONTINUE AT CAMUSO DISPLAY

Children were treated to a free Gingerbread Decorating event at the Camuso Display this past Saturday evening. The festivities, cosponsored by the Livingston Fire Department, First Aid Squad, Police Department and Auxiliary Police, included hot cocoa and cookies.
