Lorraine M. Palmer, a resident of Livingston since 1953, celebrated her 90th birthday on June 15 with a luncheon given in her honor by her children at Jim Johnston’s Steakhouse and Pub in Roseland. She was born June 15, 1929, in Newark.

The guests included her large family of five children, Jeff and Lorraine D. Palmer; Linda (Palmer) and Jim Kathenes; Shirley Palmer (widow of Gary Palmer); Greg and Pat Palmer; and Susan Palmer; and 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and many friends.

The 11U Livingston Little League baseball team continued its winning season, completing a 3-0 sweep to win the Section 2 Championship.

The team beat Hoboken, 5-1, on Monday night, July 16, in Fort Lee. The boys will now move on to the New Jersey State Championship in a double elimination format.

Concern Expressed for Traffic at Jughandle:

At Livingston’s Technical Review Advisory Committee (TRAC) meeting on Wednesday morning, July 17, at Town Hall, the group discussed a large potential warehouse project with the applicant. Traffic impact of the project was the most discussed issue. Many of the questions and suggestions the committee offered could not be answered by the applicant, Millstein Acquisitions, as the applicant said it is not known who the tenant or tenants of the property will be and how they will operate.

Livingston Police reported several vehicle break-ins and thefts over the weekend, and seven out-of-state teens are facing charges in relation to some of the crimes.

Overnight on Friday, June 12, a 2016 Mercedes S550 was stolen from a driveway on Chaucer Court. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob inside. The car was recovered in Newark later in the afternoon behind a vacant house.

On Saturday, July 13, during the overnight hours, a 2019 Porsche Cayenne was stolen from a driveway on Sandalwood Drive. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key inside. The car was also recovered in Newark later in the afternoon.

New signage for bicyclists and motorists on Falcon Road has left some in town confused at how to properly navigate the roadway. Lines direct bicyclists to travel in the center of the roadway as opposed to the side.

Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz explained that these shared-lane arrows, or “sharrows,” are indicators for bicyclists and motorists to share the roadway. Sharrows are used on roads that are too narrow to fit a bike lane. Falcon Road, particularly with the street parking also on the roadway, fits this bill.

In order for the township to fulfill its Master Plan and the complete streets initiative – allowing motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to easily navigate throughout town – these narrow streets must have instructions for how bicyclists and motorists should traverse the roadway.

And, you’re finally out. Out of county jail or state prison, that is, and trying to keep it that way. It’s a tough road, as many of those released have no skills, little or no education, possible psychiatric and social interaction issues, a lack of decent interview clothes, and, in some cases, no family or no home – or neither.
That’s where the New Jersey Redevelopment Corporation (NJRC) picks up the ball, and that’s why Livingston Philanthropies Inc. (LPI) is proud to call NJRC in Newark a distribution partner.

The 11U Livingston Little League baseball team completed a 6-0 run in its bracket to claim the New Jersey District 8 championship for the second consecutive season. The boys will now move onto the sectional round, starting today, Thursday, July 11, in Fort Lee. We’ve reached the “lazy days of summer,” and while the days are warm and there’s fun to be had around every corner in town, the pace of life slows down not just in town, but also here at the Tribune. With school out, there are fewer events to cover, from the arts to sports. Similarly there aren’t as many township meetings, and generally there are fewer reader submissions. So while we’re still here, churning out news as fast as you can make it, there is sometimes less to fi ll the pages of the Tribune than there will be in just a few months’ time. This is a normal situation for the summertime here in town, and since you may have some free time on your hands, it’s a great time to engage with the Tribune!
