LHS Track Athletes Participate in Virtual Meet

LHS Track Athletes Participate in Virtual Meet
LHS Track Athletes Participate in Virtual Meet

As the student athletes of Livingston High School continue their remote learning, they have continued to train under the guidance of their spring coaches. This includes the track and field team. Each week, their coaches provide daily workouts via a text remind service. These workouts are posted in a special Google Classroom, along with motivational videos and training tips.

During the week, technique sessions are offered via Zoom sessions to help build specific skills in areas such as sprint starts, jumping skills, hurdle mobility, or just an athlete check-in. Every Friday, a team favorite “30 for 30” session is held, during which up to 40 athletes log in to Zoom for “30 for 30 at 3” to complete a 30 second strength or cardio exercise, followed by 30 seconds of rest, for 30 minutes. This is followed by special arm building and abdominal drills, all under the encouraging eyes and voices of their coaches.

Transparency Amid Uncertainty

Last week, township officials released a detailed breakdown of the number of COVID-19 cases in town. These statistics were released, in large part, due to residents’ concerns expressed on the topic in recent weeks. It may not have been all the information that health officials are briefed on, but it sure was a heck of a lot.

The information revealed the average age of those who have died from the virus in town, which was in the mid-80s. It also showed what had been suspected but not backed up by facts. Many of the fatal cases in Livingston were coming from our long term care facilities. In fact, the vast majority of Livingston’s deaths – and nearly half of all township cases – have stemmed from the area’s nursing homes. According to the report, nobody younger than 55 had died from COVID-19 in Livingston as of last week. Four residents under 75 years old had died, all with at least one of those cases involving an underlying medical condition.
