Turf Field, Performing Arts Center, Board Size Are Discussed at Board of Education Meeting

Updates concerning a new turf field and the performing arts facility that is under discussion, as well as a question about increasing the size of the school board, were topics of discussion at the February 10 meeting.

Member Buddy August reported that the Sports Council is looking at four possible locations for a new turf field: Tevlin Field on Okner Parkway; upper and lower fields at Heritage; and “the pit” at LHS, below the football field. Each site has “its pluses and minuses,” he said. The principle negatives of several fields are drainage and size.

August also said that the potential performing arts center was the main topic at a recent Vision 20/20 meeting.

Library Eliminates Fines For Most Overdue Items

Livingston Library will surprise the community tomorrow, February 14, when it officially eliminates library fines for most of its items, director Amy Babcock-Landry announced.

Livingston joins several other Essex County libraries – including Millburn, Montclair, Maplewood and Glen Ridge – that no longer charge fines for most overdue materials.

In fact, library items that come from other fine-free libraries will also not have fines associated with them.

"Light A Candle For Wuhan"

"Light A Candle For Wuhan"

“LIGHT A CANDLE FOR WUHAN,” a candlelight vigil for the people of Wuhan, China, was held at the gazebo in Memorial Park on Saturday evening, February 8. Wuhan is the epicenter of the deadly coronavirus outbreak, which has infected more than 40,000 people and killed more than 1,000. The vigil was initiated by three Livingston High School sophomores, Gavin Chen, Yony Nadelson, and Ethan Xiao, to demonstrate support for the people of Wuhan, and the entire world, in the battle against the killer virus. LED candles were provided to the approximately 160 adults and children who attended the event. Children of the Young Parents’ Club members drew the word “Wuhan” and a heart shape on the floor of the gazebo so those in attendance could light the candles and choose a spot to place them. Above, Selena Chen and George Yang participate in the event.
