Former Residents Celebrate 70th Anniversary with Family Reunion

Jerome (Jerry) and Norma (Pear) Marsh of Boca Raton, Florida, formerly of Livingston, recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at a family reunion held at the Skytop Lodge in the Poconos. The Marshes, former owners of S. Marsh and Sons jewelry store in Millburn, were joined by their children, eight grandchildren (with six spouses among them), and eight great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), who came from near and far to celebrate the milestone.

Women's Recreation Softball League to Play Through August

During the spring season eight teams of "amazing" Livingston women play in the Livingston Recreation Women's Softball League for residents ages 30 and over. Notes organizer Kimberly Schwartz, "Over the years, we have tried to continue into the summer as the men do; but, until now, we’d not had much luck. But somehow the moons aligned and thanks to some fortitude of women determined (and the help of TeamSnap organizing) we have 39 ladies signed up to play through mid-August."

Whose Responsibility Is It?

The Tribune this week received a call from a very angry reader who demanded that the newspaper "do something" to force the town manager to put the flags at half-staff in memory of the five U.S. service members who were slain by a gunman in Chattanooga last week. While we do not condone the caller's tone nor should we have had to listen to his foul language, we did opt to look into his concern.

Board Of Education Explains Facility Rental by Governor Christie

Board of Education president Pam Chirls read a prepared statement at its July 15 meeting to explain the Board's decision to approve an agreement with the governor's offi ce for the rental of the auxiliary gym at Livingston High School on June 30. Chirls said that the event had originally been billed as "an event with the governor," and the Livingston Board of Education was careful to follow Policy 7510. She added that the superintendent deemed this event "advisable" and referred it to the school board for action according to the policy.

Police Arrest Three More Suspects For Tower Road Home Invasion

Livingston Police Department officials have announced that three more arrests have been made in connection with a home invasion robbery that occurred on Tower Road on Thursday, May 28. Last week, Melisa Aquino-Arias, 21, of Passaic was arrested without incident at her apartment by both Livingston and Passaic police detectives. She faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, robbery, burglary, and theft, among others. Her bail was set at $150,000.

Mary Pearson, 88, Dies in Holmdel

Mary R. Pearson, 88, died on Sunday, July 19, in Holmdel. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, July 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Raphael's Church in Livingston on Friday, July 24, at 11 a.m. Born in Poland, Mrs. Pearson resided in Livingston for the past 45 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Sr. and is survived by her sons, Stanley Jr. and his wife, Barbara; and Thomas and his wife, Marie. She also leaves behind four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Pearson's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Funeral Services For Betty Eagle, 86

Betty (Schwartz) Eagle, 86, died in her Livingston home in July 19. Services were held July 20 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman of Livingston. Born in Newark, Mrs. Eagle lived in Irvington before moving to Livingston 49 years ago. A secretary and homemaker, Mrs. Eagle is survived by her husband of 64 years, Julius; her children, Debbie and Gary; two grandsons; and a brother, Sol Schwartz. Donations in Mrs. Eagle's name may be made to a charity of choice.
