Santa's Eye View

This aerial photo of the Camuso holiday display at the Memorial Park Oval shows how it will look to Santa Claus as he flies over it Christmas Eve. The display, originally created by Ernest Camuso and erected at his family home on Burnet Hill Road, was donated to the township after his death, and continues his tradition of serving as a collection site for the Saint Barnabas Burn Foundation.

Goldberg’s Documentary About Holocaust Survivor to Premiere

"Be an Upstander: The Fred Heyman Story" will premier at the JCC in Whippany on Sunday, December 20 at 5 p.m. Produced by Howard Goldberg, a Livingston resident and junior at Ithaca College, the documentary presents Holocaust survivor Fred Heyman's story about growing up in Berlin in the 1930s.

After 43 Years, Football Coach Barry Kostibos Will Retire

As the field lights over Livingston High School’s Jacobsen Field turned off on November 12, the Livingston Lancer varsity football season was not the only thing coming to a close. The end of that game also marked the end of head coach Barry Kostibos’ 43-year career as a teacher and coach. Kostibos “felt a rush of emotions,” walking off the field for the final time, but felt that after so many years teaching and coaching, the time was right to call it a career.

Lancer Ice Hockey Goes 1-1 for the Week

The Livingston Lancer varsity ice hockey team lost, 3-0, to the Montclair Mounties at Clary Anderson Arena in Montclair on Wednesday, December 9 and defeated the Mount Olive Marauders, 7-2, at Codey Arena on Friday, December 11. Friday’s game saw seven different skaters score for the Lancers in an impressive offensive effort. The play was even through most of the first period until, with 3:50 left, Livingston’s Allen Bekov scored on a rebound off the Marauder goalie, putting the Lancers ahead, 1-0. Jacob Fuhrman assisted on the goal.

Devils Hockey Players Visit Saint Barnabas

New Jersey Devils hockey player Tyler Kennedy joined long-time Devils Patrik Elias and captain Andy Greene in visiting patients and families at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston onThursday, Decmeber 10. Between trips to the Pediatric Department, Burn Center and Pediatric Emergency Department, the players enjoyed an afternoon of cheering up everyone at the hospital.

First Aid Squad Needs Help

The folks who are there to help us in times of emergency now need our help. Last week, the Livingston First Aid Squad sent out a second request for financial aid. The Squad is an all-volunteer organization that relies entirely on donations from local residents and businesses. Contrary to what some may believe, the First Aid Squad receives absolutely no funding from the township or from taxpayer revenues.

Steven Charles Green Dies in California

Steven Charles Green, 64, of San José, California, died November 9. He was a 1969 graduate of Livingston High School and studied at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Mr. Green was an independent businessman with interests in alternative fuels and audio and video equipment. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James M. Green and Benji K. Green of Livingston, and a sister, Roberta S. Green. He is survived by three sons, Joshua, Noah and Matthew; and his brother, Clifford, of Pasadena, California. In addition to Livingston and San José, Mr. Green had lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Austin, Texas. Following cremation, a memorial service was held in San José following cremation. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Green’s name to a local Chabad House or to Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston.

Funeral Services Held For Theresa A. Bocchino

Theresa A. Bocchino, 80, died on Wednesday, December 9, in Livingston. Funeral arrangements were by Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. Born in Orange, Mrs. Bocchino resided in Livingston for the past 55 years. She was an active member of St. Raphael’s Church in Livingston, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Mrs. Bocchino was predeceased by her husband Michael "Mickey." She is survived by her children, Michael D. Bocchino and his wife, Mary; Michele A. Francisco and her husband, Wayne; and Cecilia Bocchino; and six grandchildren and one great-grandson. In lieu of fl owers, donations in Mrs. Bocchino's name may be made to Halos for Angels Inc., PO Box 415, Florham Park, NJ 07932.

Hold Funeral Service For Margaret E. Duker

Margaret E. Duker, 84, died on Thursday, December 10, in Livingston. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Mrs. Duker was a life-long resident of Livingston. She worked as a medical secretary for many years, and was the last surviving member of the Livingston Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Duker was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, and is survived by her son, Joseph Jr. and his wife; Linda, and two grandsons. A memorial Mass was held on Tuesday, December 15, at St. Philomena’s Church, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Funeral Services Held For Nathaniel Rosebure

Nathaniel Rosebure of Livingston died on Friday, December 4. He was 62 years old. Funeral services were by Cotton Funeral Service, which is located in Orange. Mr. Rosebure is survived by his siblings, Rossie Solomon and Najah Munir (Mentha Rosebure).
