In honor of his long-term commitment to community service, Tom Cooney will be honored as Livingston UNICO’s Citizen of the Year for 2015. UNICO president Al Branchi said, "Tom best exemplifi es UNICO’s core belief of 'Service above Self.' " UNICO is America’s largest Italian-American service organizations and for the past 60 years has annually recognized local residents who have contributed to the well-being of Livingston and its citizens.

Carrying on the Legacy

Some years ago, when the Board of Education announced plans to close schools in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, we strenuously objected. We believed – and continue to do so – that our students could learn more about Dr. King and his ideals in school than they would having a day off.

Superintendent of Schools Holds Forum For Parents of High School Students

Jim O’Neill, interim superintendent of schools, held an open forum for Livingston High School parents. The event was held in the media center at Livingston High School on January 12. In attendance were the department supervisors, the LHS administration, and members of the Board of Education, along with a number of district parents.

Offer Prayers Sunday For Ajay Shah, 57

Ajay Shah of Livingston died on Sunday, January 11, at the age of 57. Funeral services, followed by cremation, were held Tuesday, January 13, at Rosedale Crematory in Montclair. A religious ceremony and prayers to honor his life will be offered at the Hindu Temple in Wayne on Sunday, January 18, from noon to 2 p.m. Mr. Shah was born in the city of Vadodara, India. He had been a resident of Livingston since 1989. He received his master's degree in chemical engineering from Rutgers University. He was a member of the Livingston Zoning Board of Adjustment and active with the Livingston Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Shah is survived by his wife, Preety Shah, and his sons, Chirag and his wife Aishwarya; and Rajiv.
