PLAYING FOR A CAUSE: Fifteen Livingston Police officers helped raise nearly $600,000 for Special Olympics New Jersey earlier this month by playing a flag football game at MetLife Stadium. The officers participated in the New York Giants Snow Bowl a six-on-six flag football tournament.

LADY LAXERS WIN SCRIMMAGE: The Livingston High School girls’ varsity lacrosse team hosted the Kinnelon Colts in a preseason scrimmage on Friday, March 23, on the LHS turf. During the first three weeks of April, Livingston Police officers are cracking down on distracted drivers. The department will target motorists engaging in dangerous behavior while driving, especially talking and sending text messages on cell phones.

Could it be? Ten days into “spring,” have we finally seen the last of the snow?

According to the state climatologist, this area of New Jersey typically sees an annual average of about 40 inches of snowfall. Well, we were blanketed with 55.4 inches this year, and it sure felt like more.

A 26-year-old Scotch Plains man is facing several burglary and trespassing charges after he was caught in part due to a trail of tracks he left in the snow leading up to more than half a dozen homes in Livingston last Friday morning.

At about 5:50 a.m. on Friday, March 23, a homeowner on Amelia Avenue looked out his back window to discover an individual trying to enter the home through the back door, police said.

There was little controversy at the Livingston Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting on March 27. The Board easily approved six residential applications, with only short discussions.

Stacey and Joseph Moore of 354 Beaufort Avenue came before the Board for a conditional variance to keep the existing home while constructing a second home in the back of the lot, 90 feet away.

Annie Jamgotchian, 68, of East Hanover died on Tuesday, March 20. The funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Livingston on Saturday, March 24. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, to Vartouhi Lambert and Yervant Terzian, Mrs. Jamgotrchian was a long-time resident of Livingston, where she worked as a beautician for almost 40 years. She was the wife of Harout Jamgotchian; the mother of Raffi (Aline) Jamgotchian, Michael (Kristin) Jamgotchian, and Taleen Jamgotchian; and the grandmother of six. She is also survived by her sister, Siroun (Norman) Meguerditchian and Jack (Heather) Terzian.

A funeral service was held on March 25 for Adele Altman of Livingston, who died on Thursday, March 22. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Altman was born in Newark to Samuel and Anna Schram. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris Altman, and her son, Ilan Altman. She is survived by her daughter, Alisa Weissman and her husband Eric, and two grandchildren. Carl G. Weisenfeld passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Inglemoor Rehabilitation and Care Center in Livingston. He was 84. Born and raised in Passaic, he lived in Livingston for over 48 years. Carl was one of New Jersey’s leading practitioners in the field of real property tax appeals and had successfully been involved with numerous landmark decisions in his area of law, including Feder v. City of Passaic, where the taxpayer’s right to relief from discriminatory assessments were established. He was a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and received an L.L.B. degree from Columbia University Law School and an L.L.M. taxation degree from New York University School of Law. He was a member of the Essex County, New Jersey State and American Bar Associations. Carl practiced law for over 50 years. He was a managing partner at Hannoch-Weisman in Roseland and later was a partner with Norris McLaughlin & Marcus in Bridgewater.

Former Livingston resident Amanda Pearsall, 86, passed away peacefully on March 19 in Charlotte, Michigan. An Upsala College graduate, she moved to Livingston in 1963 and founded Strawberry Hill Nursery School with Wendy Klauber in 1974. Amanda was a longtime member and senior warden of St. Peter’s Church. She moved to Charlotte in 1988 where she was assistant director of the Charlotte Community Library. Amanda is survived by her sister, Dawn Vander Ploeg (Randy), her brother, Wilson Cheney (Joni); her children, Randy Pearsall (Josanne), Stuart Pearsall, Heather McGrath (Bill), Becky Scott (Brad), Kari Wright (Todd); and seven grandchildren.
