Myron (Mike) W. Kronisch, 92, who advocated passionately for a peaceful alternative to solving international disputes, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York City, he lived in Maplewood and Livingston before retiring to Mt. Arlington, NJ.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Sheila (nee Felzenberg), four loving and devoted children: daughters Elizabeth (and Marc Lesser), Jennifer (and Steven Benenson), and Rebecca (and Robert Emert), a son, Matthew (and Belle) Kronisch, as well as eleven adoring grandchildren, Danielle (and David) Levine, Madeleine Lesser, Hannah and Rachael Benenson, David (and Monika) and Jacob Emert, and Zachary, Benjamin, Elianna, Shayna and Maxx Kronisch, and a great-grandson, Reece Levine. He is also survived by his sister, Sara (and Richard) Krieger, and was predeceased by his parents, Morris and Stella Kronisch, and his brothers, Drs. Sherman and David Kronisch.

Assunta Delia (nee Pichi) died in her Livingston home on Friday, June 21. She was 98 years old.

Born in Dover, Mrs. Delia had lived in Livingston over 60 years with her husband, Anthony, while raising their children.

She worked many years as a maternity nurse at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, retiring at the age of 72.

She was predeceased by her husband after 66 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Rosanne Chieffo (Al), Ronald (Annie), and Anthony (Michele); seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held this Thursday, June 27, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mt. PleasantAvenue, Livingston. The funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church, Livingston. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

It’s that time of year again: Fourth of July is just a week away, and the celebrating will likely start as soon as this weekend, with plenty of grilling and chilling, and more than a few fireworks to celebrate our nation’s independence.

Now that many fireworks can be purchased right down the street at area retailers, backyard displays will likely pop up during the evening hours in the coming days. Non-aerial fireworks, including sparklers, poppers, and snappers (nothing that “explodes”), may now be legally sold in New Jersey, and it is a safe bet that some more heavy duty options will mysteriously find their way into a few backyards as well.

Mark M. Prial of Livingston died June 19 at the age of 57.

Mr. Prial grew up in South Orange and later moved to Livingston, where he lived for the past 25 years. He was a South Orange police officer for 27 years, retiring as a lieutenant.

He was predeceased by his father, Frank. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Patricia; his children, James and McKenna; his mother, Jeanne; and his siblings, Frank and Dunstan (Amy).

Visitation was held Sunday, June 23, at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. The funeral service was private. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations in Mr. Prial’s name be made to the Policemen’s BenevolentAssociation, Local 12, 201 South Orange Avenue, South Orange, NJ 07079.

Joe Cullen, Livingston High School Class of 2019, has received two additional honors to culminate a highly successful high school sports career.

Cullen was honored by News 12 New Jersey as the top New Jersey Scholar Athlete, selected first among a field of 50 Scholar Athletes. The three-sport athlete was awarded a scholarship and plaque by the News 12 New Jersey sports staff at an awards ceremony held at the Pines Manor, highlights of which were broadcast on News 12 New Jersey on the Comcast network.

William P. Scheeler, 50, of Livingston, NJ, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019. Son of the late William and Nancy Scheeler, Billy will be remembered for his big personality and the good times and laughter he brought to many.

Billy was employed as a landscaper for the past 30 years.

Some of his favorite hobbies included fishing, visiting the New Jersey shore, riding dirt bikes in Pennsylvania, and spending time with his friends and two children.

Loving father of Cole and Cloe and brother of Joseph Scheeler, Billy also leaves behind many loving friends and family members.

Visitation will be held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, NJ, on Friday, June 28, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Livingston Zoning Board of Adjustment, at its meeting Tuesday evening, June 25, approved five residential applications.

Prior to the regular meeting, Kalpesh Kenia was given the Oath of Office by Zoning Board attorney Richard Vallario. Kenia had served as an alternate member since January, 2018.

With six Board members present, Chairman Jim Hochberg told the applicants seeking habitable floor ratio variances that five positive votes are needed. He gave them the option to reschedule the hearing, but all the applicants agreed to be heard that evening.

Livingston’s 83rd annual 4th of July Celebration on Thursday, July 4 will start at 9 a.m. and provide a full day of activities, leading up to the fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.

In the morning, Livingston’s celebration will feature the 26th annual Auto Show, assisted by the Natural Glass Corvette Club. Patrons may vote for their favorite cars, and trophies will be awarded to the top-voted vehicles.

At 10 a.m., the Patriotic Ceremony at Haines Pool will provide the “official kick-off” to the day. The ceremony will include participation by the American Legion, the Girl Scouts, the Jewish War Veterans, the Boy Scouts, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and its Auxiliary, and the Livingston Township Council. Following that brief ceremony, the Kiwanis Swim Karnival will begin.

An off-duty Livingston Police sergeant called in a suspicious vehicle earlier this week, leading to an arrest and the recovery of a stolen car. Another car was also reported stolen, and at least one vehicle was reportedly entered at a parking lot of the Livingston Mall this week.

At 6:41 p.m. on Monday, June 24, an off-duty officer was on his way to work when he observed a 2016 Honda Pilot being operated in a reckless manner, traveling eastbound on Route 10. The officer saw the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, changing lanes without signaling and running red lights before he eventually lost sight of the vehicle.

The officer notified on-duty officers to be on the lookout for the vehicle, and police officers located the vehicle in traffic at the intersection of East Northfield Road and East Cedar Street. A motor vehicle stop was then initiated.

More than 450 Livingston High School seniors received their diplomas during commencement ceremonies on Thursday, June 20. Despite the threat of rain, the students and their loved ones were able to enjoy a pleasant, dry ceremony outdoors on the turf field.
