Deborah Monaco Succumbs to Cancer

Deborah L. McCaffery Monaco, 57, died Sunday at VNA Hospice after a long battle with lung cancer. Born in Newark, she was raised in Livingston before moving to Scranton, Pennsylvania. The daughter of Joyce Speenburgh McCaffery and the late Hugh McCaffery, Mrs. Monaco was a graduate of Livingston High School. She is survived by her husband, Mark Monaco; a son, Matthew of Scranton; a daughter, Kimberly of Lebanon; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Tommy and Michael McCaffery. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia McCaffery. A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, June 18, in the Davies & Jones Funeral Chapel, Scranton.

Funeral Services For Samuel penn

Samuel Penn of Livingston died at the age of 89 on June 15. Services were held on Tuesday, June 16, at Bernheim Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel. Following Mr. Penn's service as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, he was graduated from New York University on the GI Bill. He began his career as an insurance underwriter. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rochelle; his son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Donna Penn; his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Gary Titunick; and by his two granddaughters. The family will be sitting Shiva at the Titunick's house through Sunday, June 21. The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Livingston First Aid Squad.

Chirls and Funt Announce Candidacies for School Board

Two residents have announced their candidacies for the Livingston Board of Education in the November election. Incumbent Pam Chirls and former Board member Barry Funt are each seeking re-election for three year terms on the school board. Chirls’ first three year term will expire at the end of this year as will the one year term of Board member Ronnie Konner. Funt had served one term on the Board but was not re-elected to a second term in 2014.

Make Bicycling Safe

Some 300 people turned out for Livingston's third annual Bike Livingston event on Sunday. People of all ages, all sizes, and all ethnic backgrounds started from the township's parking lot, adjacent to the YMCA, and traveled around to see Livingston in a different way – from the seat of a bicycle. There were four mile, seven mile and ten mile routes that had been mapped out to provide a safe and relatively fl at view of our town.

First Aid Squad Seeks Volunteers

On average, the Livingston First Aid Squad (LFAS) responds to more than 2,000 calls a year. Currently, the squad is putting out its own call for help, in an effort to recruit volunteers to make sure that all Livingston residents can receive efficient emergency medical care.
