Traffic Survey

In the last few issues of the Tribune, we have reported on several motor vehicle accidents in town. Several cars were totaled, and while some people walked away with bumps and bruises, one resident suffered fatal injuries after her vehicle collided with a bus. Like most busy towns, Livingston has some roadways that can be dangerous for motorists and pedestrians. But which streets are the worst offenders, the ones that drivers should be extra-vigilant while navigating?

New Athletic Director Hired; Five School Buses to Be Purchased

The Board of Education meeting on June 4 opened with a moment of silence for Pat Heller, a retired Livingston elementary school teacher who died on May 12.

During the voting portion of the meeting, the Board approved the purchase of five new school buses; an open campus for Livingston High School seniors; a first reading of a new organizational chart; and made a number of personnel appointments.

Five Candidates to Vie For Three Open Council Seats

All five Livingston Township Council candidates, two republican and three democrat, will advance to the General Election after winning their uncontested Primary Election races Tuesday.

Incumbent democratic Council candidates Rudy Fernandez, Shawn Klein, and mayor Ed Meinhardt received, 2,071, 2,044, and 2,027 votes, respectively.

Third Annual Summerfest This Sunday

The third annual Livingston Summerfest event will be held Sunday, June 10. The event will include children’s activities and a food truck festival, with vendors representing Thailand, Italy, Columbia, Mexico, Japan, Greece, China, Taiwan, Australia, Puerto Rico, Latin America and the United States of America.

The event will be held, rain or shine. In case of rain, the Livingston High School cafeteria will be open for seating; the trucks will be outside the door.

Planning Bd. Approves East Cedar St. Subdivision; Hears Plans to Improve Building on So. Livingston

The Livingston Planning Board met on Tuesday, June 5, to re-hear a previous application, and opened a hearing on a new application.

Subdivision Approved – Again

The first application, for a minor subdivision with variances at 127 East Cedar Street, had been heard and closed on May 1; however, adequate notice had apparently not been provided to all neighbors within 200 feet of the property. Therefore, that hearing was deemed null and void, and had to be conducted a second time. Attorney Steve Geffner apologized for the error and said “it was done with no ill intent.”

Services Held Sunday For Annette Premock

Annette (Bosgang) Premock of Whippany, a former long-time resident of Livingston, died Friday, June 1, at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. She was 94 years old. A funeral service was held on Sunday, June 3, at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel of Livingston. Burial followed at Beth-El Cemetery in Paramus. To send condolences or for donation information, visit bernheimapterkreitzman.com. Born in New York City, Mrs. Premock was raised in the Bronx. When first married, she lived in Jersey City, and moved to Livingston in 1958. She resided in Whippany for the last five years. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in Hebraic studies from Rutgers University, Newark, and was active in many charitable organizations. Predeceased in 2009 by her husband, Louis, Mrs. Premock is survived by her three children, Estelle Stein, Mark Premock (Julie Graber), and Cindi Goldstein (Greg); a sister, Sheila Berkowitz (David); two brothers, Alvin Bosgang and Dr.

Lip Dub Takes Students Through Decades at LHS

Last Friday, Livingston High School traveled back in time, and a newly-posted music video takes viewers on a journey through those hallways for the student body’s latest Lip Dub. Then now-annual video features students singing over, or “dubbing” classic songs as they traverse school grounds.

Students Matthew Feresten, Adriana Franchino and Sabrina Katz, members of the LHS’s TV crew, created and produced this year’s video, working since the start of the school year to ensure it was a success. The trio first met last June at Starbucks to start brainstorming video ideas.

Livingston Police Chief Craig Handschuch Retiring

Capping a 40-year career with the Livingston Police Department, including his last ten years as Chief of Police, Craig Handschuch has announced he will retire this summer.

Handschuch informed the township this week that he plans to retire, effective September 1. He will complete his tenth year as Chief of Police on August 31. Earlier that month, on August 7, he will surpass 40 years of service in the department.
