Karen Rapicano Forbes Dies in Belmar, Aug. 13

Karen Elizabeth Rapicano Forbes, 57, died on August 13 in Belmar after a long struggle with cancer. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, September 5, at 10 a.m. at Saint Philomena Church in Livingston. She was the wife of the late Bryan Forbes of Belmar, and the daughter of the late John and Mary Rapicano, who resided in Livingston. She was a member of Saint Philomena's Church, where she attended grade school. She also attended Livingston High School. Ms. Forbes is survived by her daughter, Alexandra Forbes; and by her siblings, Marianne, Catherine, Chris, John, and Robert Rapicano, and Linda Burgess. Contributions in her memory may be made to the ASPCA.

Service on Aug. 23 For Ruth Hirschel

Ruth Hirschel, a 60-year resident of Livingston, died Sunday, August 16. She was 93 years old. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, at the family’s home, 45 West McClellan Avenue. Mrs. Hirschel was the wife of the late Seymour Hirschel for 32 years; and the mother of Lynn Hirschel-Martin, Marlene Hirschel Libby, and the late Jeffrey M. Hirschel. She is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family has announced that donations may be made in Mrs.Hirschel’s name to the PKD Foundation, 8330 Ward Parkway, Suite 510, Kansas City, MO 64114.

Bruce D. Gittlin, of Livingston, NJ and Boca Raton, FL died on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at his home in Florida. He was the beloved husband of Ethel, loving father of Gail (Gary) Rosen, and Adam; dear brother of Carol Franklin, Regina Gross, and Robert; and cherished grandfather of Alexander, Spencer, Shelby, and Hunter. A well respected business man with Gittlin Companies, Inc. of New York and Florida, Bruce was a pillar in the community at Temple B'nai Abraham, Livingston, NJ. Services were held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Temple B'nai Abraham, Livingston, NJ. Contributions may be made to the Bruce D. Gittlin Memorial Fund at Temple B'nai Abraham.

$50,000 Raised in Just Two Days To Bring Injured Resident Home

Livingston resident Gail Kelly received the call that all parents dread. Last Tuesday evening, while in New Jersey, she was informed that her 21 year old daughter, Shannon, was injured in a very serious car accident while visiting a friend in Florida. "Your heart drops," she stated. Gail caught the next plane to Florida and went straight to the hospital, where she soon found out that her daughter had sustained multiple injuries, including a lacerated liver, a knee injury, and a devastating injury to her spine.

DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED is just one of the charges Wilson Lemon, Jr. of West Orange faces following an accident that took place on West Northfi eld Road on Monday afternoon. Police responded to the area following reports of an overturned vehicle. Upon arrival, Officer Michael Davenport found Lemon's 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe (shown above) in an upright position, but noted that it appeared the vehicle had overturned.
