During the conference portion of its meeting on Tuesday, February 19, the Livingston Planning Board heard a presentation from representatives of the Business Improvement District (BID) on parking in the township.
MichaelTobia, planning consultant for the BID, reviewed a letter the BID had recently sent to the Planning Board outlining recommendations for improving commercial parking in town. These recommendations, he said, are based in large part on examination of parking ordinances and requirements in other local municipalities.
Parking Requirements
Tobia noted that some of Livingston’s current parking requirements, such as those for restaurants, are appropriate, and the BID suggests no changes. Others, however, he described as “onerous,” particularly requirements for beauty salons, health and fitness facilities, and medical offices. Livingston’s ordinance, he noted, requires up to three times more parking for such uses than other towns do.
