Petition Created to Fix Basketball Courts

Livingston resident Brandon Minde has started a petition to request that the Township Council fix the two outdoor basketball courts located next to the high school so residents can play ball in a “safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment.”

The petition, which can be viewed at https://bit.ly/3aGGJMW, surpassed 200 signatures less than two days after it launched.

“The courts should be a source of pride for the town and a place to have fun. Instead they present dangerous conditions and damaged equipment,” said Minde in the petition.

Virus Anxiety

Though as of press time no Livingston residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus COVID-19, the effects of the continuing nationwide spread of the virus are beginning to hit Livingston. Readers need look no further than the closest empty hand sanitizer shelf for proof.

There is much that is not yet known about this virus and, for the sake of our most vulnerable populations (while testing positive could result in minor symptoms for someone in excellent health, it may be fatal for the elderly or those with underlying health conditions), we should continue to take the proper precautions without outright panicking.

Coronavirus Concerns: LPI to Temporarily Suspend Collections Effective Friday

Article Image Alt Text

Thanks to the generosity of Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) donors, the charity’s new van is on the road and officially “lettered” for the road. However, due to concerns about the novel Coronavirus, which may be transmitted through surface contact, LPI is temporarily suspending its collections of coats, clothing, and toiletries, etc., as of this Friday, March 13.
“Our new van will make one last pick-up at the Tribune for now,” said LPI founder and director, Jeff Friedman. “It was a tough call and not one we wanted to make. But, in consultation with our partner, the West Essex Tribune, to ensure the safety of everyone involved – our volunteers, our donors, and our recipients – we feel the best thing to do is to put a halt to the collection of all items for the time being. Hopefully, the virus will run its course and we can go back to collecting clothing and toiletries for the homeless and profoundly poor.”
