Offer Funeral Services For William Flanagan

William Fintan Flanagan, 81, of Livingston died on December 22. The Funeral Mass celebrating his life was offered at St. Raphael's Church on Saturday, December 27. Born and raised in Newark, Mr. Flanagan was a retired captain of the Essex County Sheriff's Department, where he founded the K-9 unit and was frequently awarded the status of distinguished pistol expert. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 - 1957. Mr. Flanagan is survived by his daughter, Denise Flanagan; his brothers, Tom and Roger Flanagan; and many grandchildren. His wife of 43 years, Josephine Moschella, predeceased him in 1999. The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org, or to the New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police, 108 West State Street, Trenton, NJ 08608.

Drivers Urged To "Tie One On" for Safety

The Livingston Health Department and Community Policing Unit are asking residents to "Tie One On for Safety" as part of the MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) campaign which asks drivers to tie red ribbons to visible locations on their vehicles.

Some Things Don't Change

Born in 1887 in Livingston, he was the son of Amos Harrison, in whose honor the elementary school on North Livingston Avenue is named. He graduated from Princeton University in 1911, and taught at Livingston High School when the classes met in a small wood frame building on East Mt. Pleasant Avenue where the Firestone garage is now located.

Lancer Hockey Team Loses Second of Season in Close Match

The Livingston Lancers’ varsity hockey team lost at home to the Verona-Glen Ridge Maroon Raiders, 2-1, on Saturday, December 20, at Codey Arena in West Orange. Livingston got the game off to a strong start and seemed to have control during the first period. At 6:41 into the first, Lancer Jake Crockett scored his fi rst goal of the season to put his team ahead, 1-0. Eric Frieman and Cameron Zargarelahi were credited with the assists on the goal.

Township Presents Awards to Employees Honoring Them for Excellence in Service

At the close of each year, the township recognizes staff members who have provided exemplary service to the Livingston community. The goal of the recently held fifth annual Employee Recognition Program was to recognize significant contributions in areas relating to improving operation, cost savings, promoting team spirit, improving the image and reputation of the township, and customer satisfaction.
