Five Candidates for Township Council Discuss Business Development

During the period prior the November 6 election, the West Essex Tribune is making space available to each of the Township Council candidates, at no cost, for them to present their views to the public. In an effort to keep the campaign focused on relevant issues, we have again asked the League of Women Voters of Livingston for assistance in preparing questions, as we have in previous years. It is our hope that this will enable the voters to make a direct comparison, which will assist them in making an informed voting decision.

Although the League of Women Voters has agreed to work for an informed electorate through helping to provide uniform questions for the candidates, it must be emphasized that the League does not support any candidate in this election. Candidates are not obligated to answer the questions, or even to present any statement at all. A maximum of 300 words is allocated to each candidate each week.

Board Hears Plans for Solar Panel Array; Applicant to Return with Amended Plan

At its meeting on Tuesday evening, the Livingston Zoning Board of Adjustment heard plans for a residential solar energy system on West Northfield Road, but suggested the applicant return at a later date with amended plans.

In his original application, David Sloan requested two variances in his application to install a solar energy system in the front yard of his home at 324 West Northfield Road. The system would include ground-mounted solar panels and a 10.26 kilowatt ground mounted photo-voltaic (PV) system for onsite electrical consumption. He asked for a variance to permit an accessory building in the front yard, where such buildings are, by township ordinances, permitted only in the rear yard; and a variance from an ordinance requiring that ground-mounted small solar energy systems must be installed in a fenced rear yard only. In addition, it was determined that an additional variance for fencing would have been needed.
