Long-Time LHS Baseball Coach Bill Lampeter Dies

Bill Lampeter, a long-time teacher and coach at Livingston High School, died Wednesday, August 15. The family held private funeral services.

Mr. Lampeter attended Ursinus College in Pennsylvania, where he was a standout baseball player. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

New Police Chief Ready for the Role

On Tuesday, September 4, Livingston Police Department’s acting Chief Gary Marshuetz will be sworn in as the township’s newest chief. The appointment is somewhat ceremonial, as he will technically drop the “acting” in his title on September 1 and he has been assuming the duties of chief for several months. Nonetheless, it is the culmination of nearly three decades of service in Livingston’s police force.

Prior to the ceremony, Marshuetz sat down with the Tribune to reflect on his nearly 30 years on the job and what he hopes to accomplish moving forward.

Missing Dog Found After Four Day Search

A dog missing for four days was reunited with her family on National Dog Day. Roxie had been missing since she fled the scene of an accident on Okner Parkway near Route 10 Thursday, August 23.

According to the police report, Roxie and another dog, Griz, were both involved in a four-vehicle crash at about 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 23.

Stolen Car is Recovered After Pursuit Through Town

Following a brief pursuit through town, the Livingston Police Department recovered a stolen car and arrested the driver of the vehicle on Monday afternoon.

At about 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 27, an officer on routine patrol watched a black 2016 Toyota Camry run a red traffic light in front of police headquarters on South Livingston Avenue.

Two Vehicles are Stolen; Seven Cars Broken Into

Two vehicles were stolen and items were taken from several more unlocked cars on Saturday, August 25, according to the Livingston Police Department.

At about 7 a.m. Saturday, West Orange Police notified Livingston Police, saying they had found a 2018 Acura TLX registered to a Livingston resident near the intersection of Northfield Avenue and Walker Road.

Public Schools Open Tuesday

The first day of school for the approximately 6,000 students in the Livingston Public Schools is Tuesday, September 4; teachers have been in the buildings Wednesday and Thursday, August 29 and 30.

Renee S. Essinger

Renee S. Essinger (née Appell) of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Livingston, passed peacefully on August 20, 2018. Renee was a homemaker and the beloved wife of the late Frederick J. Essinger who pre-deceased her in 1995. She was the devoted and beloved mother of Toni-Sue (Thomas) Tremarco, Bernard (Janet) Essinger and Steven Essinger. Renee was the adored grandmother of Jillian Tremarco, Eric Essinger, Jordan Essinger, Jaclyn Essinger and Zach Golden. She is also survived by her brothers, Joel and Harry Appell, and a sister, Phoebe Tobias. The family requests that donations in Mrs. Essinger’s memory be made to Trustbridge, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407. A graveside service was held on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Arrangements were handled by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union, New Jersey.

Dorothy Howland

Dorothy Anne Howland, 86, of Livingston, died on August 27, 2018. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation today, Thursday, August 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, New Jersey 07068. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, August 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston with entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Born in Newark, Mrs. Howland grew up in Verona and settled in Livingston in 1961. She graduated from Mount St. Dominic Academy in 1950 and went on to the St. Vincent’s School of Nursing. Prior to her retirement, she was the baker in the cafeteria at West Essex High School. In her spare time, she volunteered to drive for the St. Catherine Health Care Center of the Dominican Sisters in Caldwell. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Philomena’s Church and enjoyed knitting. Mrs.
