Services Were Held For Helen Kearney, 97

Helen Marie Kearney died on August 4 at the Mt. Arlington Senior Living Center. Services were held on August 8 at the Davis and Hepplewhite Funeral Home in Succasunna. Mrs. Kearney was born in Woodhave, Queens, New York, and lived in Livingston before moving to Mt. Arlington 15 year ago. A homemaker, she was predeceasd by her husband, James E. Kearney, in 1983, and is survived by her four daughters, Pat Clausen of Easton, Pennsylvania, Jean Vollmer of Mt. Arlington, Linda Kearney of Boonton, and Joanne Pickell of Branchville; as well as six grandchilren and eight great-grandchildren. Donations may be made in her name to Defenders of Wildlife, 1130 17th St. NW, Washington, DC 20036, or to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090.

Services Were Held For Dolores Gross, 87

Dolores Mary Gross (née Rebar), died on August 6. Services were held at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home in Brick. Born in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, she moved with her family to Newark, where she met her husband, Bill. They married in 1951 and raised their four children in Livingston, moving to Brick in 1987. Mrs. Gross worked during high school as a colorist for Lorstan Studios and, after raising her children, obtained a nursing degree from County College of Morris. She worked as an RN at Brick Hospital and later volunteered in the emergency room. She was predeceased by her husband in 2010, and by her brother, Frank Rebar, and her sister, Florence Crann. Mrs. Gross is survived by her four children, William Jr. (Dianne) of Wilmington, Delaware; Patricia Grant of Morris Plains; Jack (Karen) of Half Moon Bay, California; and Karen Pyhel (Kevin) of Chatham and Point Pleasant.

Sanford Goldberg

Sanford “Sandy” Goldberg, 86, died peacefully in his sleep on July 13, 2018. He is survived by his two daughters, Sue Ellen Greenberg and Terri Goldberg; his brother, Robert Goldberg; his son-in-law, Michael Greenberg; and his grandsons, Adam and Ross Greenberg. Sandy was a charitable man who served on the boards of Erste Bershader, B’nai B’rith, MetroWest JCC, and Temple Beth Shalom. Sandy began his lifelong love of football at Weequahic High School, where he was captain of the football team, and went on to play football for the U.S. Army and in college until an injury benched him. A graduate of New York University, he joined his father and brother in the insurance firm founded by his grandfather in 1914. He later assumed executive positions with State Mutual of America and John Hancock. Sandy was laid to rest alongside his late wife, Ann, in a private graveside service. Mass Offered Aug. 4 For Gregory Bylo, 60

Gregory R. Bylo died Tuesday, July 31. He was 60 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, August 4, at St. Philomena Church, Livingston. Visitation took place at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston, on Friday, August 3, and Saturday, August 4. Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, Mr. Bylo attended the University of Connecticut and received a degree in mechanical engineering and material science. He was the vice president of health care at GS1 US in Lawrenceville. Earlier, he was an engineer at Smith and Wesson, manager of quality assurance for Kearfott Guidance and Navigation, and the director of supply chain for BD. Mr. Bylo was an active parishioner at St. Philomena Church as a Eucharistic minister and Pre-Cana team member. He also served on the Parent Guild of Aquinas Academy. In addition, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Mountain Council 3533.

Funeral Mass Offered For Erminio Romano

Erminio Romano, age 86, of Livingston, died Wednesday August 1. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston, on Tuesday, August 7. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Visitation took place at the LaMonica Memorial Home, Livingston, on Monday, August 6. Mr. Romano was a machinist with Ducco Industries Company before his retirement. Earlier, he had been employed for more than 45 years with Tungsten- Alloy of Harrison. He was predeceased by his wife, Italia DeVito Romano. Mr. Romano is survived by his sons, Angelo and his wife, Dawn; David and his wife, Connie; and Robert and his wife, Maria; and five grandchildren.

Services Were Held For Anita Stern

Services were held on Sunday, July 8, for Anita Stern of Livingston, who died on July 5. Arrangements were handled by Menorah Chapels at Millburn. Mrs. Stern was born in Koblenz, Germany, to Oscar and Erna Mayer. She worked for the Bergen Community Blood Bank. She was predeceasd by her husband, Harry Stern, and is survived by two daughters, Susan Salant (Bart) and Diane Siegel (Marc), and five grandchildren. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Selvin Is Candidate For School Board

Rachel Selvin, a retired lawyer and 14-year Livingston resident, has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Livingston Board of Education.

Following is her release:

Rachel has two children, one in Heritage Middle School and one who just finished his freshman year at Livingston High School. She has been an active parent volunteer in the school district since her older son started kindergarten at Collins Elementary School ten years ago. In addition to chairing many different committees at Collins, she was also its PTA president.

Goren Announces School Board Run

Todd Goren has filed a petition with the Essex County Clerk to seek one of the two open seats in the November Livingston Board of Education election.

Following is his release:

An 11-year resident of Livingston, Mr. Goren is a parent of three children in the Livingston Public Schools. His family has been actively involved in the school system; his wife, Laura (Kurland) Goren, a Livingston High School graduate, holds multiple volunteer leadership roles at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, Mt. Pleasant Middle School, Heritage Middle School and the Parent-Teacher (PT) Council. Mr. Goren also frequently coaches youth sports for his children.

11U Team Wins Championship; Heads to State Tournament

The Livingston 11U Williamsport All Stars Little League baseball team won the Section 2 Championship on Sunday evening with a nail-biting 4-3 victory over a tough Belleville Squad at Ironbound Little League Field in Newark.

Jared Levine pitched his second consecutive complete game against Belleville, and the offense turned a 1-0 lead into 4-0 with a three-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning.
