Debbie Burack Is Second Republican To Enter Race for Township Council

Livingston resident Debbie Burack has launched a run for a seat on the Livingston Township Council. Burack, a Republican, will campaign for one of the three open seats in November’s general election.

All Council members are currently Democrats. Incumbents Rudy Fernandez, Shawn Klein, and mayor Ed Meinhardt all have terms expiring at the start of 2019 and have filed petitions to seek reelection.

Shredding Truck Catches Fire; Attendance Record Is Broken

The 1,065 cars that went through the Saturday, April 14 electronics recycling and paper shredding event is a new Livingston record. Scott Goldman, chairman of the Recycling and Reclamation Committee, said cars lined up along West Northfield Road even before the event started.

Committee volunteers, including Eric Baltuch, Joan Cohen, Judy Grebel, Walter Veit, and event chairwoman Karen Garber, helped direct traffic and assist residents. Also on hand were volunteer students from the Livingston High School Science Honor Society, and some new signage helped the process go smoothly.

Torrential Spring Storm Dumps Four Inches of Rain

Heavy rain that began around 4 a.m. on Monday, April 16, and continued to about 11:30 a.m. dumped 3½ to four inches of rain on the township.

The rain, torrential at times, caused flash flooding as brooks and catch basins overfl owed. Exacerbating the situation was natural debris left over from last month’s storms that had made its way into storm drains, blocking them up.

Three Cars Collide on South Livingston Ave.

West Cedar Street was closed for a short time Friday morning following a three-car crash on South Livingston Avenue. Livingston Police also responded to an assault outside an apartment complex and arrested a teenager for possessing marijuana and credit cards that did not belong to him.

At about 10:02 a.m. Friday, April 6, police responded to South Livingston Avenue near West Cedar Street for a reported three-vehicle crash.

Extrication Was Required

EXTRICATION WAS REQUIRED in the aftermath of a single car accident on Laurel Avenue on Monday night, April 9, at about 11:30 p.m. According to the police report, Jane K. Chong of Sycamore Terrace was traveling southbound on Laurel when her Toyota wagon crossed the double yellow line, struck a curbed median on the corner of Brown Court, and then struck a light post and street sign at the intersection.
