CHOW Always in Need of Food; Seeks Household and Paper Products

It's a known fact that in summer time, things slow down – and this includes donations to blood banks and food pantries. Livingston CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse), operated by the Livingston Clergy Association and the St. Philomena Church Sharing Office, is no exception.

Smoke Detectors Work

A tragedy was averted this week when a husband and wife were awakened in the early morning hours and alerted by the incessant beeping of a ten dollar smoke detector to a raging fire in their home. An Essex Fells woman was not so lucky. She was found dead in her bedroom after firefighters extinguished a massive blaze there. Although there was no report of whether or not she had a smoke detector, the comparisons of the two incidents in one week is easy to make.

Volunteers Still Needed

According to Board of Education president Barry Funt, people have started sending letters of intent to the Board to fill the one year unexpired term of Dr. David Jasin and the two-year term of Leslie Winograd. This is very good news. There is only one week left to submit such letters; the deadline is 4 p.m. Thursday, July 31. Two candidates will be selected by the remaining three Board members to fill the vacancies until the Monday, January 5, 2015 reorganization meeting. The opportunity to serve for four months is a great way to learn about the running of the school district and we encourage more people to get involved.
