The Livingston High School girls’ and boys’ track and field teams have hit a good stride at the mid-point of the season.

On April 28, the team went to Millburn for the Paul Beck Relays to compete against 22 other area teams in various relay events on the varsity and freshman/sophomore levels. The meet enabled the Lancers to prepare for the Essex County Relay Championships, which they will host on May 4, and was a chance to run younger runners in events against their peers.

Several worthwhile events held this past week helped showcase Livingston’s impressive array of services for people with disabilities.

Last Sunday, April 29, was the Abilities Expo at Livingston High School, a family-friendly event with a rich variety of resources, products, services, and technologies for people with special needs. Each year, it provides a unique opportunity for families of children and adults with disabilities to find resources, collaborate with professionals, and explore the supports available in and around the community.

Every so often, the Tribune hears comments from residents concerned about the transparency of Township Council meetings. A common refrain is that most matters discussed during the regular meetings appear settled long before they even begin, resulting in limited discussion and unanimous approval before the public.

The Livingston Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the 2018-19 school budget, followed by a vote on the budget, on Monday, May 7.

It is the public’s last opportunity to ask questions or make comments about the school budget before the Board makes the decision on the final “struck” budget.

The Reverend Robert H. Langdon of Rutherford, formerly affiliated with St. Philomena Church in Livingston, died Sunday, April 29, at the age of 87. A con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 4, 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Hasbrouck Heights, with interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will take place at the church today, Thursday, May 3, from 3:30 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., and on Friday, May 4, from 9 to 10 a.m. Born in Hasbrouck Heights on September 5, 1930, Father Langdon was graduated from Seton Hall University and Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington. He was ordained into the priesthood on May 26, 1956. In addition to regularly assisting with Masses at St. Philomena Parish in Livingston during the early 1970s, his assignments included St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Ramsey; St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Rutherford; St.

Emil J. Freda, 92, of Livingston, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 in Livingston, NJ. Born in Newark, Emil resided in Livingston for the past 51 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. Emil was a member of the Livingston Old Guard, the Livingston VFW Post 2856, and the Livingston American Legion Post 201. He worked as a teacher for the Morristown School District for 35 years, before his retirement in 1986. Emil was an avid bowler, and would often be found outside of ShopRite, selling VFW poppies to help support veterans. Emil was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Helen, in 2005. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and James Freda. He is survived by his loving children, David Freda and his fiancé, Kathy, and Linda Hughes and her husband, Griff, as well as his cherished granddaughters, Allison and Kimberly Hughes.

Anthony “Dick” Battista, 78, of Livingston passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018. ISRAEL AT 70: Hundreds of people descended on the Livingston Oval on Thursday afternoon, April 19, to celebrate Israel at 70. A subcommittee of the Livingston Diversity and Inclusion Committee, chaired by Sheri Goldberg, had organized scores of activities for children, teens and adults to celebrate Israel and diversity in Israel and in Livingston, as well as within Judaism. The cold windy weather dampened some activities but did not affect the crowd’s spirits.
