Softball Player Nankivell Gets 100th Hit; Mount Pitches a Five Inning No-Hitter

The Livingston Lancer softball team celebrated several accomplishments in recent weeks. The team played three games, including two against SEC American division opponents. The Lancers defeated Hanover Park, 14-0, on Wednesday; Columbia, 5-2 on Thursday; and lost to Mt. St. Dominic, 4-3, on Monday.

There have been two Lancer softball milestones accomplished so far this season. Senior Sophia Mount recorded her 400th career strikeout on April 7. Allie Nankivell, a junior, collected her 100th career hit on Monday.

LITTLE LEAGUE SEASON BEGINS: The Livingston Little League held opening day ceremonies at Treat Field within the Congressional Sports Complex on Saturday, April 13. Little League president Pat Ippolito introduced the many dignitaries and ceremony participants. The highlights included the ceremonial opening first pitch by Mayor Al Anthony, Little League player presentations, sponsor tables along the walkways, two inflatable amusements, pizza for all, and the season opening Little League games. LHS Softball Team Starts Season With 3-2 Record

The Livingston High School softball team opened the season on April 1, and its record currently stands at 3-2.

The team scored victories against Super Essex Conference American Division teams West Essex (6-2), Montclair (8-0), and Cedar Grove (6-1). The Lancers lost against two teams from Somerset County, North Hunterdon (3-2) and Watchung Hills (5-0).

On Monday, after the solar eclipse passed, Cedar Grove, ranked third in the state, traveled to the Oval for a 5 p.m. game. Senior pitcher Sophia Mount, who will pitch at Villanova next year, got the leadoff hitter to ground out, and then struck out the next two hitters. Mount was dominant all day, as she finished with 13 strikeouts, while giving up only three hits and walking four batters.

Lancers Begin Tennis Season on the Road

The Livingston High School boys’ tennis team opened its 2024 season with 5-0 loss in a Super Essex Conference match against Montclair High School. Montclair is a talented veteran team with five seniors in the singles and first doubles, while Livingston played without their top two players.

The Lancer singles lineup of Julian Turovets,Arjun Bansal, andAdvaith Pillai lost straight sets match.

First doubles Jake Hershkin and Jared Melamed, along with second doubles Jacob Goldstein and Dylan Tovitz won their first sets but dropped the second sets and third set tiebreakers.

Montclair’s first doubles team rallied after trailing 3-6, 1-4 for the 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 win. Their second doubles team, consisting of two freshmen playing their first match, also rallied to defeat the Lancer duo of two seniors.
