George Silberman, 87, of Livingston, died on Thursday, October 5.

A graveside service was held on Friday, October 6 at Beth El Cemetery in Paramus.

Rosa Velella Dies at 96

Rosa C. Velella, 96, died on Thursday, October 5. Born in Newark, Rosa resided in Livingston for most of her life.

Mrs. Velella worked on the township’s Election Board, was a communicant of St. Raphael’s Church, and was a member of the AARP Livingtones.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Velella Sr., and her son John Velella Jr. Mrs. Velella is survived by her children, Tamra Cotugno and Ronald Velella; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Sunday, October 8, at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held on Monday, October 9 at St. Raphael’s Church, with interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Services Held For Maurice J. Anderson

Maurice J. Anderson died on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Spring Hills-Livingston. He moved to Livingston in February 2023 from Cherry Hill.

He was a USAir Force Lieutenant Colonel for 20 years and a rehabilitation counselor in the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in Camden.

Col. Anderson was predeceased by his wife, Beverly. He is survived by his daughters, Jana and Sherri; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Luke’s Episocopal Church in Montclair on Tuesday, October 3, with a celebration of life service afterwards. Internment with a military honor guard was held at Locustwood Memorial Park.

Donations in Col. Anderson’s name can be made to St. Bartholomew’s Church in Cherry Hill, and Toni’s Kitchen at St. Luke’s Episocopal Church in Montclair.

Vincent L. D’Antonio

Vincent L. D’Antonio, age 74, passed away on September 23 in Vacaville, California.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Philomena Church, on Tuesday, October 10, at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.

Vincent was born in Newark and was a California resident for the last 50 years.

Vincent graduated from Rutgers University-Newark with a bachelor of arts degree, and the University of California at Davis with a master of arts degree.

He worked as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in Jamaica after college. He held positions as a research scientist and a plant geneticist before settling at the University of California Davis, where he was a manager for the California Celery Growers Association for 30 years.

He loved sports and was an avid, lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.

Vincent was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend.

Memorial Service For Norman Shaw

Norman Shaw, 91, of Livingston, died on Sunday, October 1.

Mr. Shaw served in the United States Army, and worked at the McLaughlin and Stern Law firm in New York City.

He is survived by his spouse, Gail Shaw; his children, Elissa Caterfino Mandel and Laura Shaw; as well as six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel.

Memorial donations in Mr. Shaw’s memory can be made to the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, Teaching Kids About the Law, or the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Anthony Battista Dies at Age 61

Anthony H. “Tony” Battista of Livingston, died on Sunday, September 17, at the age of 61.

Mr. Battista worked at PSE&G for 40 years before retiring in December 2021. He was also a member of the UNICO Livingston Chapter and Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his three sons, Mark, Michael, and Christopher; his siblings, John and Connie.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 10 a.m. at Saint Philomena Church in Livingston.

Andrew Baker Dies in FL

Andrew Baker, raised in Livingston, died on September 21 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was bom in 1953.

He graduated from New England School of Optometry and worked at Danvers Massachusetts and Massachusetts Eye and Ear. He also started one of the first online contact lens companies.

Mr. Baker was predeceased by his son, Remington, and his parents Robert and Pauline. He is survived by his siblings, Mark and Susan; step-mother, Dawna; and nieces and nephews.

Livingston’s first police department buildingwas anunusedgarage behind then-Chief William Ashby’s house.

Irene F. Morgenroth, 89, died on Thursday, September 21. Mrs. Morgenroth was born in Jersey City and lived in Livingston for over 30 years.

She worked for Western Electric in Newark and Macy’s in Livingston, where she worked in administration.

Mrs. Morgenroth was predeceased by her husband, Donald. She is survived by her children,Arlene, Donald, andAndrew; and four grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Monday, September 25 at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. The funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, September 26, at St. Philomena Church. Cremation will be private.

Irwin “Pops” Jacobs

In loving memory, the family of Irwin Jacobs is sharing that their beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother passed away at the age of 89 on September 19, 2023.

Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Irwin started his career working alongside his father Benjamin.

He married the love of his life, Diane, and joined his father-inlaw, Charles Schultz, in the family business, Prince Range. He went on to open his own appliance and electronics distribution company, JEMAppliance, which was handed down to his next two generations of family.

Irwin (aka “Pops”) leaves behind his loving wife, Diane, his three children, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a sister.
