Barry Herman Dies at Age 88

Barry Herman of Livingston died on Friday, September 8.

He was a member of Temple B’nai Jeshurun and Chabad of Short Hills. He was also on the Jewish Community Housing Corporation board.

Mr. Herman is survived by his wife, Cherie; his daughters, Stephanie, and Jaycie; his five grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Mr. Herman was held on September 10, at Bernheim- Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel.

Following the funeral service was a burial at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, in Woodbridge.

Donations can be made in his memory to American Brain Tumor Association.

Ilse K. Raab

Ilse K. Raab

Ilse K. Raab (nee Englert) 82, of Dawsonville GA, passed away on August 9, 2023. Ilse was raised in Irvington and Maplewood, New Jersey. In 1961, she married her husband, William, and lived in Livingston for 56 years. Along with their two sons, they owned and operated Valley Household Appliances for many years. They retired and moved to Dawsonville,Georgia in 2017.

In her spare time, Ilse enjoyed shopping with her friend, Helen Shue. She also served as the president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Livingston Fire Department. Ilse and Bill also enjoyed spending time on their Harley-Davidson motorcycles on the weekends.

Ilse was preceeded in death by her parents, Anna, and Eric Englert; her eldest sister, Evelyn; and her twin sister, Louise. Surviving are her devoted husband, William; her loving sons, William E. and Mitchell D.; and her grandchildren, William and Mitchell; as well as many cherished friends.

Jennifer Schatzberg Dies at Age 56

Jennifer Lyn Schatzberg, 56, died on Saturday, September 9. Ms. Schatzberg was born in Livingston.

A funeral service was held on September 13 at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel. Following the funeral service was a burial at Beth Israel Cemetery, in Woodbridge.

Joseph L. Fiordaliso

Joseph L. Fiordaliso

Joseph L. Fiordaliso, president of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities; proud husband, father and grandfather; friend and mentor to so many; and one of the longest serving members of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s cabinet; has died. He was 78.

Joe was born in the Ironbound neighborhood of Newark, the youngest son of Angelo and Rose Fiordaliso, whose families immigrated to the United States from Italy at the dawn of the 20th century. Joe, who grew up in a crowded three-story cold-water flat on Fleming Avenue, learned his devotion to family from his doting mother, Rose, and his work ethic from Angelo, who worked factory jobs to support his family.

Kenneth V. Martin, Jr.

With great sadness, the Martin Family announces the passing of their father, Kenneth V. Martin, Jr., who passed peacefully with his children and grandchildren by his side. He went to be with the Lord and his beautiful wife, Janet, on August 31, 2023 which would have been their 61st wedding anniversary.

Kenneth was 82 years old and proud Father of four children, nine grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren.

Kenneth was born on November 25, 1940 in Morristown, New Jersey to Mary (Allen) and Kenneth V. Martin, Sr. He had four siblings, William, James, Suzanne, and Joan.

Kenneth married the love of his life, Janet (Liebenow) onAugust 31, 1962. Their union was blessed with four children, Kenneth Martin III, Karen McKenna, Kathleen Caputo and Kristina Schulman. They built a lovely life in Livingston, New Jersey, where they raised their children before moving to Easton, Pennsylvania in 2019.

Services are Held For Timothy Healy

Former Livingston resident Ryan Timothy Healy died on Thursday, August 31, in Cockeysville, Maryland. He was also a Livingston High School graduate.

Mr. Healy served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army from 2003 to 2012, and completed two tours in Iraq. During that time he was awarded a Bronze Star, The Army Commendation Medal and The Army Achievement Medal, as well as the St. George’s Bronze Medal.

He was the son of Kathleen and Neal Healy. He is survived by his children, Nicholas, Sean, and Lilly.

Visitation to honor Ryan’s life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston, NJ. A funeral service will take place at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home on Friday, September 8, at 10 a.m.

His family has noted that contributions can be made to the Headstrong Project.

Sanford Lieberman Dies At Age 56

Sanford Joel Lieberman died on Friday, August 25, after a two-year battle with cancer. Hewas 56, andwas a Livingston High School graduate.

Mr. Lieberman was a commercial pilot and reached the rank of captain.

He is the son of Judith and the late Warren Lieberman. He is survived by his wife, Kristina; his mother, Judith; his sister, Elyse; his children, Kaycie and Kyle Tufaro; and other relatives.

Annie Blair Eisner

Annie Blair Eisner, age 20, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023. Annie is survived by her parents, Jodi and Andrew Eisner; her sister, Lainie; and her grandparents, Joyce and Neal Leavitt. She is also survived by her aunts, uncles and cousins.

Annie was born on October 8, 2002, and lived in Livingston, New Jersey. She went to Temple Beth Shalom Preschool, Mount Pleasant Elementary School, and was a graduate of Livingston High School, class of 2021.

She had an abundance of friends, many of whom she met when they were very young. She was a student at Syracuse University, Newhouse School of Public Communications, and aspired to have a career in public relations. Camp Lokanda in Glen Spey, NewYork, held a special place in her heart, and the friends she made during her seven summers there were like sisters to her. She danced at Michele’s Dance Studio for 14 years and was a member of their competition dance team.

Joseph L. Kavalus

JosephL. Kavalus of Toms River, formerly ofCapeMayandLivingston, passed away on August 12,2023 attheUniversityofPennsylvaniaHospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness. He was 75 years old.

Joe, the oldest child of the late Len and Peggy Kavalus, grew up in Livingston and graduated from St. Philomena’s School (now Aquinas Academy). Summers were spent working at Becker’s Farm in Roseland as assistant milkman to “Ted the milkman” and as the conductor of the “train ride” at Becker’s Farm. He was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 16 at St. Philomena’s Church, earning the rank of Star Scout.

Joe was a graduate of Essex Catholic High School in Newark. There he played varsity baseball as the catcher and switch hitter. He won many awards for baseball, including All State and All Conference. He was picked up by Montreal Expos baseball scout Honey Russell and attended spring training in Florida with the team; but knee injuries kept him off the final roster.

Funeral Services Held For William O’Neill

William O’Neill of Livingston died on August 20 at the age of 86.

Mr. O’Neill was a husband to Mary Jane; a father to Joseph O’Neill, William O’Neill Jr. (Eileen), LuAnne Marotta (Anthony) and Darlene Bell (Jason); and a brother to John Edward O’Neill. Mr. O’Neill was also a grandparent and great-grandparent.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Avenue in Caldwell. An entombment will be held the same day, at 1:30 p.m., at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue in East Hanover.
