Joan Dollinger

Joan Dollinger passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at the age of 92.

Born in Newark, New Jersey on February 4, 1929, Joan went to Weequahic High School, Upsala College, and Newark State College, and earned her master’s degree in counselling at Montclair State University. She was a beloved teacher at Burnet Hill School and at Mt. Pleasant Junior High School in Livingston, New Jersey for many years. While maintaining a full-time teaching career she co-founded Women In Self-Help (“WISH”), a service to assist female victims of domestic violence in partnership with Saint Barnabas Medical Center. She also volunteered at Turning Point, an organization assisting those with alcohol and drug dependency.

She was active in counselling centers as well as various charitable and progressive causes, both in New Jersey and Boca Raton, Florida, where she retired with her husband of 65 years, Kenneth “Buddy” Dollinger. Joan was the recipient of many honors and awards, including the Hannah G. Solomon Award for Outstanding Service to Women from the National Council of Jewish Women and the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award from the Livingston Chapter of UNICO. In her final years, she was a resident at Crane’s Mill in West Caldwell, New Jersey.

Joan leaves behind her daughter, Reesa Greenwald; her son, Jeffrey Dollinger; as well as four grandchildren, Jamie Geltzeiler, Corey Liberman, Jaclyn Stukey, and Michelle Forber; and six greatgrandchildren.
