Stephen Messarosh

Stephen Messarosh, 91, of Livingston, passed away on Saturday, February 24, with his family by his side. Born on October 22, 1932, in Throop, Pennsylvania, Stephen led a life filled with passion, purpose, and service. A proud veteran, Stephen served his country honorably in the Navy during the Korean War, stationed aboard the USS Midway.

Stephen’s love for learning and his commitment to excellence led him to achieve a master’s degree in chemistry from Rutgers University. Stephen was employed by Englehard Industries as a chemist, for 35 years and also held a second job at the Port Authority before his retirement. Stephen’s dedication extended beyond his professional life; he was actively involved in his community, serving as a leader in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Livingston. He was also honored with the David Paul Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his many contributions to the church and community. Stephen was a member of the Free Masons and Shriners International and an avid New York Yankees and Rutgers football and basketball fan.

A devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Stephen’s greatest legacy lies in the love and devotion he shared with his family. Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Veronica Messarosh, his sisters Margie Sullivan and Ann Foley, and his first wife of 33 years, Joan Messarosh. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Kathleen Messarosh; his children, Pennie Bigelow (Scott) and David Messarosh (Michelle); sister-in-law, Laura McLean; two stepsons, Tim Campbell and Mark Campbell and their families; five grandchildren, David Bigelow (Regina), Matthew (Catherine) and Jonathan Bigelow, Kendyl and Brooke Messarosh.

His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
