Pietro “Pete” Poto, age 78, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Pietro was born in Lioni, Italy, on June 27, 1942, to the late Gerardo and Giuseppina Poto. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Bernardino and Alfonso. Before moving to Livingston, Pietro immigrated to the U.S. in 1960 and settled in Newark, New Jersey, to start his new life. He lived in Newark until he married his wife, Angela, in 1972. Together they moved to Nutley, New Jersey, until finally settling in Livingston in 1977 and raising their family. Surrounded by a big extended family in and around Livingston, Pietro’s greatest enjoyment in life was being with his loved ones. Prior to retiring, Pietro worked as a cabinet maker at Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey, for approximately 30 years. A skilled woodworker, Pietro was known for the meticulousness in which he completed his projects. Pietro’s effervescent smile and easy-going nature will be forever remembered by all those who knew him. Quick to offer anyone who came to his home a glass of homemade wine, he remained closely connected to his roots in Italy while living theAmerican dream. Known as “Nonno” to his grandchildren, he was happiest when he was with them. Surviving are his wife, Angela; his daughter, Carla and her husband, Matthew; and his son, Gerard and his wife, Kelly. He was a loving and doting grandfather to his four grandchildren, Frances, Parker, Jack, and Mia. Also surviving are his brothers, Alberto, Antonio, Guido, and Philip. He will also be dearly missed by numerous extended cousins, nieces, and nephews living in the U.S., Canada, and Italy. A funeral Mass was held at the Church of St. Philomena in Livingston, New Jersey. Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. ...
