Dr. Melvin Goldblat, age 76 of Fairfield, Connecticut and formerly of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut. Dr. Goldblat was born in Newark, New Jersey, a son of the late Joseph and Jeanette Goldblat. Dr. Goldblat received his bachelor of science degree from the Massacusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1964, his M.D. (cum laude) from Yale University School of Medicine in 1967, and completed his internship, residency and fellowship through Mount Sinai Hospital in New York (1967 to 1972). He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander during his service from 1972 to 1974. Dr. Goldblat was a senior member of The Nephrology Group, West Orange, New Jersey until his retirement in 2011; Director of the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Kidney Transplant Program (1997 to 2011); Director of the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Division of Nephrology (1999 to 2011; on staff 1975 to 2011); Medical Director of Parkside Dialysis Center (1986 to 2001); and Medical Director of the Christ Hospital Division of Nephrology (1993 to 1998; on staff 1998-2011). Dr. Goldblat served on the Trans-Atlantic Renal Council for the Medical Review Board (1991 to 1993), belonged to the American Society of Transplantation, was a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, and was President of the Nephrology Society of New Jersey (1980 to 1981). Dr. Goldblat was known as a wonderful physician and a man of integrity, compassion and dedication. His interests and hobbies were a source of great joy, both to him and to the family and friends with whom he shared them. Music, especially the piano, boating, fishing, hiking, birdwatching and home improvement projects topped his list, and he tackled each with his signature competence and quiet enthusiasm. Dr. Goldblat is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Goldblat; his devoted children, Harris Goldblat (wife Rebecca) and Jeffrey Goldblat; his adored grandsons, Samuel Goldblat and Davis Goldblat; his dear brother Robert Goldblat; and his dear step-brother David Blatt. He was predeceased by his dear brother, Steven Goldblat, and his dear stepsister, Sharen Blatt. A funeral service took place on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, Fairfield, Connecticut, with interment following at Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport, Connecticut-Memorial contributions may be made to either The Parkinson Alliance, www.parkinsonalliance.org, or The Michael J.
