Memorial Service For Bergoth Meusel

A memorial service will be held at noon on September 6 in the Presbyterian Church of Livingston for Bergoth Thorsen Meusel, 91. Mrs. Meusel died in her sleep in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on July 22. Born in Haugesund, Norway on August 8, 1922, Mrs. Meusel emigrated to the United States with her family in 1928, settling in Newark. After graduating from Central High School in Newark, she worked as a secretary at Worthington Pump. She married Jack C. Meusel in 1945 and moved to Livingston, where she resided for 66 years before moving to South Carolina. After raising her family, Mrs. Meusel worked for the Livingston Department of Recreation and Parks for many years before retiring. She was honored by the Livingston Kiwanis Club in 1985 for outstanding service to the community. A badminton enthusiast, she won several awards for her sports abilities, including tennis, volleyball, bowling and golf. A life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Corporal Arthur E. Smith Post 2856 in Livingston, she was also a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts and a member of the Evergreens. Mrs. Meusel was active in the Livingston Presbyterian Church and was director of the Oak Leaf Club for senior citizens for many years. Predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Jack, Mrs. Meusel is survived by four children, John and his wife, Marilyn; Walter and his wife, Judy; Nancy Cecere and her husband, Bart; and Linda Yeatman. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Livingston Presbyterian Church, 271 West Northfield Road, Livingston NJ 07039. ...
