A Touching Tribute

While we were deeply saddened to hear about the sudden passing of a 14-year-old resident last week, it was heartening to see how the community came out to honor Shiv Kulkarni this past Sunday during a candlelight vigil at the Oval.

According to the vigil’s organizers, Shiv’s family and friends, nearly 1,000 people were in attendance Sunday evening. Shiv’s loved ones spoke and sang in front of a community that is still mourning one of their own, someone gone far too soon. We hope that this touching tribute allowed people to grieve the loss, and we are certain that Shiv’s memory will live on within so many in Livingston.

Delta Concerns

After a relatively pleasant couple of months (compared to the year-plus that preceded it), the COVID-19 pandemic is once again at the forefront. The delta variant is making life more difficult and dangerous for the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike. While unvaccinated individuals face significantly greater risk of hospitalization and death from the virus, breakthrough cases among vaccinated individuals are becoming increasingly common, reportedly accounting for at least half of Livingston’s cases in recent weeks. Statewide, breakthroughs accounted for nearly one in every five recorded cases during the last week of July.

Summerfest, Healthcare Parade Cancelled Due to Delta Concerns

Some of Livingston’s planned fall events have been cancelled due to the rise in cases as a result of the delta variant of COVID-19, according to township officials.

Mayor Shawn Klein said that the township’s Physician Advisory Board cited several factors as reasons for concern, including that the current wave of cases is expected to peak in October; children under 12 years old still not being able to receive a vaccine; and vaccine immunity potentially waning in elderly individuals.
