Sixth Graders Graduate from L.E.A.D. Program

The sixth graders at Mt. Pleasant Middle School worked throughout the school year with the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) officers from the Livingston Police Department, Officer Joy Klapal and Officer Ralph Kolbusz.

The program culminated last week with two events. On Tuesday, June 22, the students had a party with the L.E.A.D. officers, with pizza provided by the HSA of Mt. Pleasant Middle School. During the pizza party, two students from each class received a prize for writing the best L.E.A.D. essays. All the essay winners were then entered into a raffle for the grand prize, a $100 gift card donated by Livingston PBA #263. Principal Bronawyn O’Leary drew the winning ticket, which went to Jon Chin.

Kushner Wins Baseball Championship

Article Image Alt Text

The Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School Cobras baseball team won the Yeshiva League Championship on Sunday, June 20, defeating the Frisch Cougars at Smith Field in Parsippany. This was the third time in the last four seasons that Kushner had faced off against Frisch in the title game, with Kushner winning in 2017.

The game featured Frisch’s sophomore pitcher, Jack Ruditzky, matching up with Kushner pitcher, Ilan Cohen. The two aces pitched perfect first innings before Frisch took the lead in the second, scoring the first run of the game.

Cohen coasted through the top of the third inning with help from a leaping catch by Kushner senior second baseman Eitan Kaynan. In the bottom of the third, third baseman Eli Fishbein hit a leadoff double and, after advancing to third on a groundout, scored on a bunt by right fielder Ben Orbach.

Opinion

Congratulations Graduates

It is a very special day for many of our Livingston families. Today, Thursday, June 24, students from Livingston High School’s Class of 2021 will attend their graduation ceremony, in person, and receive their diplomas. We are thrilled to see our hundreds of seniors experience a relatively normal ceremony. It is well-earned after what can charitably be described as an unusual, and challenging, final two years of high school.

Despite the strangeness and uncertainty, students have been able to finish out the school year in person with their peers and teachers. Thankfully, the final memories of high school for many of these students will not be of staring at a laptop and their bedroom walls, but rather of roaming the LHS halls with friends, signing yearbooks, and saying farewell to their favorite teachers.
