Peter Tenewitz Dies at Age 90

Peter A. Tenewitz, 90, died on Monday, April 6. There will be a memorial gathering at the Quinn- Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, on Friday, April 10, from 4 to 8 p,m. Everyone is invited directly to St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston, for the Memorial Mass on Saturday at 11 a.m. to celebrate Mr. Tenewitz's life. Born in Palisades Park, Mr. Tenewitz lived in Livingston for more than 50 years before moving to Toms River in 2013. He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the US Navy and served in the South Pacifi c during World War II. He received his undergraduate degree from Ursinus College and his master’s degree from Montclair State University. A teacher at Columbia High School in South Orange/Maplewood for more than 35 years, Mr. Tenewitz was chairman of the Math Department, retiring in 1992. Predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 1993, he is survived by a daughter, Lea Plant and her husband, James of Manahawkin; two sons, Peter Tenewitz and his wife, Joan of Belvidere, and Richard Tenewitz of Brooklyn; a sister, Kay Vialonga; and five grandchildren.
