The calendar says September, but Livingston’s teachers celebrated the "New Year" on Monday, August 31, returning to school after summer recess to prepare for the opening of schools on Wednesday, September 2. The public schools opened with 6,005 students enrolled. "Our clocks are different," said Dr. Ernest Palestis, the new interim superintendent, referring to the educators who have the opportunity to start "fresh and refreshed" every September. "This is my New Year."
