Funeral Mass Saturday For Corporal Brennan

Livingston Police Corporal William J. Brennan, 57, died Sunday, November 22. Visitation will be held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, on Friday, November 27, from 2 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Philomena’s Church, 396 South Livingston Avenue, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 28. On March 30, 1979, Cpl. Brennan began his 36 year association with the Livingston Police Department as a chanceman and was appointed to the position of a full time police officer on November 1, 1980. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 1999. He was credited with the implementation of Project Lifesaver for the Township of Livingston, for which he received the Livingston Area Chamber of Commerce’s Community Award in 2009. He earned numerous commendations and awards from both the Livingston Police and the New Jersey State PBA. Among them, he received the Essex County Valor Award in 1987, and the Life Saving Award in 2001. Cpl. Brennan was a member of the Essex/Union Auto Theft Task Force and the Emergency Services Unit. In 1997, he risked his life in an attempt to save fire victims, and as a result was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. He was the State Delegate for PBA Local #263 and Essex County PBA chairman for more than 20 years. Predeceased by his father, Robert, in 2006, he is survived by his daughter, Meghan Brennan; his mother, Janet; his sister, Carroll Ann Brennan and her husband, William Carlson; and his long-time partner, Donna Fletcher. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Essex County PBA Conference “William J.
