Doris M. Esposito, 89, of Portland, Maine, passed away on March 12, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Port Richmond, on the west side of Staten Island, New York, the oldest daughter of Gordon and Violet (Nicholas) Muffett. She had lived in Livingston for 30 years. During the second World War and until 1953, Doris was a medical secretary to the chief of surgery at Halloran Naval Hospital. She won awards in American history and stenography at Port Richmond High School. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and working with flowers. She played the piano, had patience for puzzles and loved to go on outings. Doris was an avid reader whose favorites were historical novels and biographies. Her years in Portland were spent in the company of many loving friends, and her niece, Kim. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony John Esposito, in 1989. She is survived by her children, Stephen A. Esposito of Illinois; Marilyn E. Matthews of Pennsylvania; and Mark and Gina Esposito of Connecticut; her sister, Bonnie Muffett of Wisconsin; and four grandchildren, Tori, Michael, Samantha, and Alexandra. A private service will be held in Wilton, Connecticut, at a later date. Arrangements are by Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, Portland, Maine. ...
