Services Thursday For Murray Sklar

Murray Sklar, 92, of Livingston died Monday, December 12. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, December 15, at Temple Beth Shalom of Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth Shalom. Mr. Sklar was born in Newark, New Jersey and was graduated from Weequahic High School in 1943. A Marine, he served during World War II, fighting in the battles of Saipan and Okinawa. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Corporal. After attending The Citadel for two years, he attended the Newark College of Engineering, now NJIT. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering and his professional engineering license. Mr. Sklar worked for Fada Radio and Electric, then for ITT Laboratories, where he worked on the first Talos missile program. He then joined Lockheed Electronics in Plainfield, where he spent the rest of his professional career until retiring in 1990. Mr. Sklar was a past president of Temple Beth Shalom and a past president of the temple’s Men’s Club. He was a past Commandant of the West Hudson Marine Corps League and served 14 years as state Chaplain for the New Jersey Marine Corps League. He was made Honorary Past State Commandant of the New Jersey Marine Corps League, and voted Marine of the Year. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 740 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2856, both in Livingston. Predeceased by his sisters, Carolyne Sklar Freidin and Margaret Miller, Mr. Sklar is survived by his wife of 68 years, Harriet; his son, Charles; his daughter, Robin (Ken); and one grandchild. ...
