Services Today, Jan. 12 for Samuel “Sonny” Bucca

Samuel L. “Sonny” Bucca, 80, of Waretown died Saturday, January 7, 2017. Funeral Services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, at Hancliffe Home for Funerals, 222 Ridgedale Avenue in East Hanover, with an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church in Livingston. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Born in Newark, Sonny was a longtime Livingston resident before moving to Waretown 13 years ago. A graduate of Barringer High School in Newark, he served in the United States Navy after the Korean War. Sonny was employed as a sales manager for the Monumental Life Insurance Company in Union for 35 years prior to his retirement in 2003. He was a member of and mentor for Gamblers Anonymous for 47 years; an umpire for the Amateur Softball Association for 35 years; and a volunteer driver for the Veterans Administration hospitals in East Orange and Brick. Sonny was an avid sports fan who loved the Yankees and New York Giants. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, the former Gloria L. Cano; two daughters, Donna Grywalski and husband, William, and Deanna Bucca and wife, Amy; six grandchildren, Tara Latour and husband, Franck, Elyse Bertoletti and husband, Rodrigo; Lexy and Sam Bucca; and Samantha and Jake Gerber; a great grandson, Emiliano Bertoletti; two sisters, Camille Sorice and Patricia Biscardi and husband, James; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sonny was predeceased by a son, Louis Paul Bucca, and by a sister, Jeanne Natalini. Memorial donations to any Veterans Administration hospital or your favorite charity are preferred to flowers.   ...
