Virginia A. Broderick

Virginia A. Broderick, a longtime resident of Livingston, died on January 19, 2017 at home. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 24 at St. Philomena Church, Livingston, where Mrs. Broderick was a parishioner. Born and raised in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, Mrs. Broderick was a graduate of Newark Teachers College, now known as Kean University. She moved to Livingston in 1954 to raise her family and later taught at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School for more than twenty years. Ginny, as she liked to be called, was a devoted member of the Livingston Women’s Club for 60 years, serving two terms as President. She worked very hard on the Club’s mission to raise funds for scholarships for Livingston High School seniors. She also served on the Township Appearance Committee as a mayoral appointee. Mrs. Broderick was preceded in death by her sister, Belle Riggs; her grandson, Keith Ritchie; and her husband of 68 years, John P. Broderick, Sr. As a couple they enjoyed traveling with friends and family in the United States and Europe and spent many summers at the New Jersey shore. She is survived by her four children: Marcia A. Broderick of Calabasas, California; Kathleen B. Estabrooks and her husband, Michael, of Cranford; John P. Broderick, Jr. and his wife, Colleen, of Brielle; and Kevin M. Broderick and his wife, Deborah, of Chantilly, Virginia. Mrs. Broderick is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kelly M. Ritchie, Anne Estabrooks Miller, John P. Broderick III, Elizabeth Broderick, Timothy Broderick, Michael B. Estabrooks, Jr., Kate Broderick Lew, and Keith Broderick; as well as four great-grandchildren: Kali Ritchie, John William Ritchie, Lauren Miller and Pierce Broderick. Mrs. Broderick is also survived by two beloved cousins, Marcia S. Rogers and Mary Pierson. She leaves behind a devoted friend in Nancy Fitzsimmons.
