Audrey Claire (Krauss) Chhabra, 84, of Granby, CT., beloved wife of Brij M. Chhabra for 59 years, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017. Born and raised in North Arlington, NJ, daughter of the late Irving and Dorothy (Conley) Krauss, she and Brij raised their children first in Livingston, NJ and then the family moved to West Simsbury, CT. Brij and Audrey then moved to Burlington and finally settled in Granby ten years ago. Audrey was a postal clerk for the Simsbury Post Office for over 20 years before retirement and was the first female rural carrier on staff. She was an accomplished dancer and won a high school jitterbug contest. She enjoyed participating in the Simsbury Theatre Guild’s production of My Fair Lady in the 1970s. She loved to listen to music and her radio was always on. She was happy spending time in her garden, tending her flowers and she had a special affinity for birds – especially hummingbirds. Audrey had a quick wit and her beautiful smile came easily and lit up the room. She adored being Grandma, Uma, Maga to her grandchildren and spoiling them in her own special way. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Donna Semplenski (Dave) of Livingston, and Karen S. Simard (Edward Savio) of Burlington; and two sons, Greg M. Chhabra (Elaine) of Middlefield and Brad R. Chhabra (Catherine – her “other daughter”) of Barkhamsted; six grandchildren, Pamela Clare, Marci Tanelli, Frank Semplenski, Alexis Chhabra, Jesse Simard, and Tyler Simard; seven great-grandchildren and one “on the way”; a brother Leonard Krauss of Randolph, NJ; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by an infant son, Michael Chhabra. Her family will receive friends Saturday, March 4, 2017, from 10:30-11 a.m. prior to a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, “The Barn,” 124 Old Farms Road, West Simsbury, CT. A reception will follow. Contributions may be made to the House of Bread, 1453 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06120. ...
