Janet L. Cardell

Janet L. Cardell (neé Hulbert), passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017. She was the beloved wife for 56 years of William L. Cardell and devoted mother of Stephen, Wendy, and Bill. She was born in Orange, NJ and later moved to Livingston, where she and Bill raised their family. She spent her final years in West Caldwell. Mrs. Cardell was graduated from Berkeley Secretarial School. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a secretary to a trust offi cer of the Guaranty Trust Company in New York. She was an entrepreneur and artist. She won several awards in the field of fused glass artwork, and established a fused glass business which she ran for over 20 years. She was also on the jury of the First Mountain Crafters. She was a published freelance writer and the recipient of several writing awards. She volunteered in the Literacy Program in Orange and was a member of the Essex County Trail Walkers. For over 30 years she was a member of the Livingston Book Club and the Livingston Writers’ Group. She was a long-time member of the Trinity Covenant Church in Livingston, where she served in various capacities through the years. A graveside service was held at Hanover Cemetery, Hanover Road, East Hanover on Monday, March 6. A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined. Mrs. Cardell’s parents, Robert and Jessie Hay Hulbert; her husband, William L.; and two brothers, William C. and Robert Hulbert, predeceased her. She is survived by three children: Stephen L. and his partner, Sheila Dundee of Tulsa, OK; Dr. Wendy L. Cardell of Roswell, GA; and William R. and his wife, Teri, of Palisade, CO. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Brandon M. Fitch and his wife, Leigh, of Grand Junction, CO, and Ariane M. (Fitch) and her husband, Tom O’Dea, of Atlanta, GA; and one great-grandchild, Alice Kate O’Dea. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Covenant Church in Livingston or to a charity of one’s preference. Arrangements have been entrusted to Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston. ...
