William B. Gilmore

William B. Gilmore, 86, of Livingston, passed away peacefully at home on February 28, 2017, of diabetes. Bill's viewing was on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Bradley, Brough, and Dangler Funeral Home in Summit. Private interment services were at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York, which dates back to the pre-Civil War era of 1855 with the Gilmore family. Bill was born in Newark, raised in East Orange, and moved to Livingston more than 62 years ago. He was a millwright, cabinet maker, and carpenter who practiced his craft for more than 64 years, and continued to observe the rule of "measure twice and cut once" right up to his retirement in 2016. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a weapons certifi cation supervisor (Cpl.). Bill was based in Fairbanks, Alaska, before statehood, then known as the Territory of Alaska. He served terms as president and vice president of Essex County Carpenters Union No. 1209. He also served on the Livingston High School Vo-Tech Advisory Council. William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia A.; his sons, Kenneth J. of Chatham, N.J., and Robert M. of East Brunswick, N.J., and his two grandchildren, Kevin J. and Katherine E. Gilmore, both of New York City.
