Martin Cohn

Martin Cohn was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 29, 1935 and died peacefully on April 21, 2017 in Rancho Mirage, California. Marty was a graduate of Columbia High School and Ohio University. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Japan, where he headed a mobile air traffic control unit, enabling him to travel to many countries in the Far East. After leaving the service, Marty married Judy, the love of his life. They were married for 57 years. They moved to Livingston, New Jersey in 1965, where they raised their two wonderful children. Marty had a successful career in real estate, first as a broker with the Archie Schwartz Company and then as an executive with Vornado Realty Trust. He was a member of NACORE (National Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives); President of NAIOP (the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties), where he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award; and President of the Maplewood Country Club. Marty loved sports, both as a participant and a fan. He was a pitcher for his team in the Livingston Men’s Softball League, was an avid golfer, loved the New York Yankees, and was a long-suffering fan of the New York Jets. He and Judy travelled extensively, and enjoyed the theater, music, and art. Upon retiring and moving to Rancho Mirage, Marty became active in many organizations. He was on the Board of Jewish National Fund; served as President of the AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee); was President of his Homeowners’ Association; and volunteered with the USO (United Service Organization). One of the highlights of his retirement was his participation in his Tuesday morning discussion group, in which he and his friends debated and shared thoughts about domestic and foreign affairs. Marty is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Peter and Debbie; his brother, Ted (Linda); his daughter-in-law, Judy; his son-in-law, Jim; and his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jake, Amy, Stephanie, and Jacquelyn. Marty dearly loved his family, his friends, his country, and Israel. Services were held on Wednesday, April 26, at the Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish National Fund; Wounded Warriors; or to a charity of one’s choice. ...
