Old Scam, New Twist
Dear Editor:
A resident informed me of a new twist to an old scam.
Rather than someone impersonating a family member in trouble and needing funds sent to assist them, this time it was reported to a child that an elderly parent had just caused an automobile accident and extensive damage was done to the caller’s car.
The accident would not be reported to the police or any insurance company if the child sent funds to cover the repair costs. Of course the funds had to be sent by Western Union or a gift card.
