Hazel van den Heuvel

Hazel Viola (Rowe) van den Heuvel passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, after a brief illness. She was a 1943 graduate of Newark Central High School. In 1944, she married Calvin C. van den Heuvel, just days before he shipped out to serve in World War II. After moving to Livingston in 1946, Hazel and Cal became charter members of the Presbyterian Church of Livingston. Later, after raising her children, she worked at Burrelle’s Press Clipping Bureau and Newsweek Magazine. Hazel and Cal were active in square dancing and enjoyed riding with a Gold Wing motorcycle club. Hazel spent many happy hours crocheting, sewing, reading, collecting music boxes, making family picture albums, and creating ceramics. In recent years, she became a cat lover and an enthusiastic Bingo player. Hazel is survived by her sons, Richard A. (Rick) van den Heuvel and Eric H. (Hank) van den Heuvel, and their wives, Dawn and Terry; her grandchildren, Jill, Christopher (Chris), Robyn, and Katherine (Katie); and her greatgrandchildren, Nicholas, June, and Tessa. Also surviving are her nieces, Lois Fosset and Lynne Ellen Weitner; her nephew, Jim van den Heuvel; and her extended family. Services will be conducted at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 2, from 4to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, February 3, from 10 to 10:30 a.m., with services at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Branchville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Presbyterian Church of Livingston or to the Livingston First Aid Squad. ...
