Winifred B. Antonick

Winifred B. Antonick, formerly of Livingston, passed away peacefully on January 7 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Winnie was born in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, on July 14, 1920, to George and Elsa Bonnet. The family moved to Verona, where Winnie was graduated from Verona High School and then Berkeley Secretarial School in East Orange. She loved theater, big and small, and especially being a part of the Verona Players for over 25 years. After graduation, she was secretary to the vice president, and then the president, of Howard Savings Bank in Newark. She married Andrew J. Antonick of Irvington in 1947. After living in Bloomfield, they moved to Livingston in 1953, where she remained for close to 60 years. Except for a one-year move to Verona and a short stint in Toms River in 1992, Winnie was back in Livingston for 20 years after Andy passed away. She then moved to Milwaukee in 2011 to be with her family. Aside from being a Girl Scout leader; serving on the Board of the Livingston YMCA for the Day Camp program; the Friends of the Livingston Library (her love of the Livingston Library); and working in Livingston Town Hall in her retirement years, Winnie was very involved in local and state Republican politics, starting in 1960. She was a member of the Livingston Republican Club; the West Essex Women’s Republican Club; the Essex County Republican Women; the Essex Federation of GOP Women; the New Jersey Federation Republican Women and the Livingston County Committee for 30 years. She worked on many of the committees as a board member and secretary and was a legislative aide to Senators David Dowd and Gerard DelTufo. She would surprise and please us all as she became a Democrat, from 2008 until the end. Winnie is survived by her daughters, Laura Kremer (Joe) and Pamela Wachter (Bruce). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer, Samantha, Amanda, Daniel and Lacey; and her great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Owen. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elsa Bonnet; her husband, Andrew J. Antonick; and her sister, Jeanne Nowak. Winnie loved Livingston and was sad to leave. She thoroughly enjoyed her final years in Milwaukee. The family wishes to thank the amazing hospice and nursing home staff at Luther Manor in Milwaukee. Winnie very much enjoyed visiting the beautiful Milwaukee Art Museum for its exhibits and having her martini with ...
