Harriet Hiller

Harriet Hiller, age 95, died on February 1, 2018 at her home of the past 60 years in Livingston, NJ. Born in New York City in 1922, she graduated from Walton High School in the Bronx, ranking fifth of 900 students. She went on to Bernard Baruch College as one of only 75 women city-wide invited to attend, graduating cum laude and as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. She financed her education working weekends as a professional Flamenco dancer, performing on Broadway with José Greco and at nightclubs in Greenwich Village. Thereafter, she held supervisory positions at a publisher of scientific textbooks and treatises. Harriet is best known locally for her passionate support of the Livingston Arts Association, for which she served as presiding officer and director of activities for almost 30 years. An award-winning artist in her own right, Harriet was an elected member of the New York and New Jersey branches of the American Artists Professional League and The Pen and Brush, along with holding memberships in many local organizations. Her oils and charcoals have received numerous awards in competitions over the years, and will be her legacy to friends and family. Predeceased by her husband, Marvin Hiller, she is survived by her daughter, Michele Skupp; her son-in-law, Alan Skupp; and her beloved grandson, Bennett. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Livingston First Aid Squad, 62 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston, NJ 07039. ...
