Funeral Mass Offered For Dr. Thomas Liddy

Thomas J. Liddy, M.D., 85, died Tuesday, February 13, at his home in Livingston following a long illness. He was 85 years old. Viewings were held on Saturday at the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home in Hoboken and on Sunday at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston. A funeral Mass was offered Tuesday, February 20, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Livingston, with entombment immediately following at the Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, East Hanover. Born in Morristown, Dr. Liddy was raised in Summit. He earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served his residency and fellowship in pathology at National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. In 1965, he moved to Livingston with his family, where he resided for 53 years. Dr. Liddy accepted a position as pathologist and was the first director of the hyperbaric unit at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. He later became director of pathology and laboratories at St. Mary Hospital in Hoboken. In 1989, he became the director of LabCorp in Cranford, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the New Jersey Medical Society (NJMS), the College of American Pathology (CAP) and the Hudson County Medical Society, belonging to the Peer Review Committee. Dr. Liddy is survived by his wife, Sarah O’Grady-Liddy; his daughter, Diana Liddy; his siblings, Patricia Traynor (Richard), Martin Liddy (Antonette) and Margaret Liddy; his daughter-in-law, Maureen Liddy; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Kindred Hospice, 242 Old New Brunswick Road, Suite 140, Piscataway, NJ 08854. ...
