Richard A. Gabel of Livingston died Sunday, February 11, at the age of 89. A memorial gathering was held Saturday, February 17, at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. Mr. Gabel grew up in Newark and lived in West Orange before settling in Livingston in 1966. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Atlantic Design Company in Newark for 40 years, and later opened his own business, PARR Design in Livingston. He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts and Indian Guides, and coached Little League. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Gabel was predeceased by his wife, Alice; his son, Richard A. Gabel Jr.; and his son-in-law, David Veriepe. He is survived by his children, Patricia Veriepe, and Robert Gabel and his wife, June; his sister, Dorothy Teebo; and six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. The family has suggested that donations in Mr. Gabel’s name may be made to the West Essex YMCA.
