Jeffrey Beck, 64 of Ellicott City, Maryland, formerly of Livingston, N.J., passed peacefully on March 10, 2018. Jeffrey Beck, LPC, ICGC II, BACC, JD, CART, MCTC, ABD, was the Clinical Director at The Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling, which is part of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He previously served as the Assistant Director of Clinical Services, Research and Treatment at the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey. Jeffrey practiced law for 18 years before returning to school to get a Masters in Addiction Counseling and completing all course work and qualifying exams for a Ph.D. in Social Work. Jeff was a graduate of Livingston High School, Class of 1971. He also graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and from Seton Hall University School of Law. Jeffrey loved music, reading, bridge, sports and, above all else – life. His unselfishness, passion and compassion were evident each and every day, in the numerous lives he touched and the people he helped. Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Karen; his parents, Felix and Doris, the first woman Mayor of Livingston; his brother, Bruce and his wife, Janet; his brother, Steven and his wife, Lauren; and four nephews and one great-niece. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the National Council on Problem Gambling at NCPGambling.org.
